PC Version ‘Very Positive’… ‘Au Revoir’, a 90s 32-bit nostalgic sci-fi adventure, launches on consoles on September 17

    By Editorial Team2026년 09월 10일4 Mins Read
    • The first title from Invisible Studios, an indie developer based in Curitiba, Brazil
    • A retro sci-fi adventure inspired by 90s 32-bit aesthetics and ‘Blade Runner’

Au Revoir, a narrative adventure game developed by Brazilian developer Invisible Studio and published by Nuntius Games, will be released on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on September 17.

‘Au Revoir’ combines neon noir visuals that recreate the graphic style of 1990s 32-bit games with point-and-click investigation gameplay. The PC version was released first on Steam on January 30, 2025, and is currently rated ‘Very Positive’ on Steam.

    A dystopian mystery surrounding synthbrains

The setting of ‘Au Revoir’ is the year 2071, a dystopian world where ‘Au Revoir Ltd.’, a company that monopolizes the market for ‘Synthetic Brains’ capable of storing human consciousness, exists.

The player takes on the role of Tristan, a ‘Sentinel’ belonging to the Orbois Corporation, and carries out a mission to find and recover the synthbrain and transfer its consciousness to a new body.

While carrying out a seemingly simple mission, Tristan begins to doubt whether his identity and memories are genuine. As the possibility of a defect in the synthbrain he uses is raised, the case takes an unexpected turn.

The game features a branching structure where the story changes depending on the player’s choices, leading to multiple endings.

Retro visuals inspired by classic 90s games

Developer Invisible Studios stated that they extensively referenced 1990s games to realize the visuals and game design of ‘Au Revoir’.

In particular, it cited Westwood Studios’ ‘Blade Runner (1997)’ as a major inspiration, and also took puzzle and visual elements from ‘Silent Hill 2’ and the original PlayStation version of ‘Resident Evil 2’.

There was also an interesting episode during the development process. In the initial version, the appearance of the protagonist Tristan was not finalized, so a PSX-style model based on the character played by Ryan Gosling in the movie ‘Blade Runner 2049 (2017)’ was temporarily used.

Producer Leonardo Pedroso explained, “Since Blade Runner was one of our biggest inspirations, we spent a lot of time exploring the world of Au Bois in the guise of Ryan Gosling while testing and validating the idea.”

Intuitive point-and-click that reduces ‘pixel hunting’

Invisible Studio is a development company based in Curitiba, Brazil. Founded from the passion of students, ‘Au Revoir’ is the studio’s first official commercial title.

The development team focused on reducing the so-called ‘pixel hunting’ that commonly occurs in the point-and-click adventure genre.

“When I started developing point-and-click games, I looked into a lot of 90s titles. Many of them relied on solving puzzles through trial and error, such as finding well-hidden items or trying non-intuitive item combinations,” said Pedroso.

He continued, “‘Au Bois’ places greater emphasis on narrative, and many players these days are unfamiliar with the genre,” explaining, “We pursued intuitive problem-solving methods and clear item usage so that players can naturally follow the investigation and story rather than wandering around searching for objects on the screen.”

Recommended for fans of classic adventure and sci-fi mysteries

‘Au Revoir’ is introduced as an award-winning title, and the PC version has maintained a ‘very positive’ rating since its release on Steam.

The development team stated that players who have enjoyed games such as ‘Disco Elysium’, ‘Nobody Wants to Die’, ‘Detroit: Become Human’, ‘The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales’, and ‘The Wolf Among Us’ would find ‘Au Bois’ appealing.

Pedroso said, “I recommend ‘Au Revoir’ to players who like narrative adventure, mystery, and sci-fi, as well as fans of classic point-and-click games, and those who like the retro vibe unique to 90s games and cyberpunk worldviews such as ‘Blade Runner’.”

Ahead of the console release, ‘Au Reu’ has opened official store pages for PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox, and wishlist registration is currently available.
