- Ultra-compact game development contest to fit a game onto a single floppy disk (1.44MB)… Applications open until September 4th
The number of special awards for the ‘1.44MB Game Development Contest,’ which involves completing a game within the capacity of a single floppy disk (1.44MB), has been expanded to eight.
2P GAME ARCADE, the organizer of the contest, announced that a total of eight partner organizations will participate in the ‘1.44MB Game Development Contest’ to select a special award.

Participating in this special award are Indiegame.com , Minimap, Myongji College, Chungkang University of Culture & Industry, Singlecore Games, Next Stage, Game Culture Foundation Game Culture Education Center, and Bada Games. Each collaborating organization plans to select works from the contest entries that meet their respective objectives and criteria to award the special prize.

The special prize money is 144,000 won each, reflecting the contest’s core concept of 1.44MB in the prize scale. It carries the meaning of supporting works that implement creative gameplay within a limited capacity.
The ‘1.44MB Game Development Contest’ is a unique game development contest that sets 1.44MB, the typical storage capacity of a single 3.5-inch floppy disk, as the constraint for game creation. Participants must configure the entire distribution file required to run the game to be within 1.44MB, and the key challenge is how to compress and implement ideas, technology, design, sound, and gameplay experience within this limited capacity.
The contest was planned to highlight the potential to achieve both fun and quality within a small file size, moving away from the current game development environment where large-capacity graphics and vast content have become the norm. Participation is expected from not only professional indie game developers but also students learning game development, as well as domestic and international developers interested in retro games and low-spec development environments.
“A representative from 2P GAME ARCADE stated, ‘Various game communities, educational institutions, and developers have joined as special award winners because they resonated with the purpose of the contest,’ adding, ‘We look forward to seeing how developers will compress fun and ideas within the 1.44MB constraint.'”
He added, “Through the expansion of special awards, we are now able to highlight entries from a wider range of perspectives,” and “I hope that domestic and international indie game developers and student developers will take on the challenge without hesitation.”
Applications for the contest and detailed information can be found on the official 2P GAME ARCADE website.
