- A new title from Invader Studios, the Italian indie studio that developed the Daymare series.
- A four-person co-op horror comedy about surviving as delivery workers in a monster-ruled dystopia
Panic Delivery, a 4-player co-op horror comedy developed by Invader Studios, an indie studio in Ollevano Romano, Italy, was released on Steam Early Access on May 13.
Panic Delivery is a horror comedy game where players take on the role of a deliveryman in a dystopian world ruled by monsters and undertake dangerous missions in 4-player co-op. It features a unique structure where the operation approaches failure as deaths and mistakes accumulate, based on 99 ‘clone lives’ shared by the entire team.
Combining procedurally changing maps, diverse missions, and unique monsters, this game offers a distinctive multiplayer experience that blends horror, humor, strategy, and chaos.
A corporate dystopia mixed with horror and humor
The game is set in a corporate dystopia dominated by monsters where humans have been reduced to expendable labor. The three main zones—a haunted mansion, a cloning factory, and an Antarctic base—each possess distinct dangers and atmospheres, and the procedurally generated map structure demands a different gameplay style each time.
The sound and visuals simultaneously pursue the tension of a horror game and the lightheartedness of a comedy. It is characterized by an emphasis on “unpredictable and chaotic fun,” achieved through the blend of Invader Studios’ signature horror direction, humor, and intense survival mechanics.
In particular, even ‘unfunny’ moments, such as monsters’ bizarre attacks or the absurd deaths of companions, are designed to evoke laughter rather than fear, serving as a key element that defines the overall atmosphere of the work.
99 Lives and Cooperation… An Unpredictable Delivery Operation
The delivery team is given a total of 99 ‘shared clones’. Whenever someone dies, one clone is consumed and immediately redeployed to the scene, but the entire process is carried out under the supervision of the management team. The indiscriminate consumption of clones is never welcome, and if a monster is not dealt with, the management team may intervene directly.
In the Early Access version, ▲ Standard delivery ( Standard Delivery) ▲ Package Retrieval (Package Recovery) ▲Smuggling Three mission types are provided, including (Smuggling). In addition, 13 types of monsters with distinct behavioral patterns appear, turning simple deliveries into constant crisis situations.
Players can use the in-game currency ‘Speech’ to purchase various utility and defensive items, and cosmetic elements are retained even during repeated play. This can be interpreted as a design that simultaneously requires strategy and variable management within cooperative gameplay.
“Fun amidst chaos” vs. “Genre fatigue”… Mixed initial reactions
Community reaction is generally positive, but some concerns also exist. Players highly praise the game’s unique chaotic fun, noting that “laughter never ceases amidst pure chaos.” Playtest participants also commented positively on the improved polish compared to the Early Access version.
On the other hand, some have pointed out the saturation of the cooperative horror survival genre and raised criticisms that it is too similar to Lethal Company. Along with this, initial feedback is also emerging calling for technical improvements, such as field of view (FOV) options and input optimization.
foreign media Bloody Disgusting noted it as a “horror comedy where you risk your life to meet your quota,” while Games Press introduced it as a “fresh and chaotic approach to roguelike dungeon crawlers.”
From traditional horror to cooperative comedy… The developer’s bold genre shift
Italian indie studio Invader Studios has previously released classic survival horror games such as Daymare: 1998 and Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle. Panic Delivery marks the first instance where the studio has deviated from this established path and shifted direction toward a fast-paced, cooperative horror comedy.
The development team plans to continuously add new maps, enemies, missions, and items by actively incorporating community feedback during the approximately one-year Early Access period. Furthermore, they have established community-centric development as a core principle, emphasizing that “players will test the limits of the game, and the results will determine the direction of the next update.”
“Panic Delivery,” a mix of horror, humor, cooperation, and chaos, is testing its potential by offering a “unique multiplayer fun” that reinterprets the conventions of survival horror. Attention is focused on how much this title, born from a bold genre shift within survival horror, can improve its quality through future updates that incorporate user feedback.
