Monowave Wins Taipei Game Show Indie Game Award 2025

    By Editorial Team2025년 02월 10일Updated:2025년 02월 18일3 Mins Read

Indie Game “MONOWAVE” Wins at Taipei Game Show Indie Game Award 2025 – The Only Korean Title to Receive an Award

    • Exhibited at the Taipei Game Show B2C Korean Pavilion with Support from KOCCA
    • Praised Globally for Its Emotion-Themed Puzzle Action Adventure Gameplay

Indie game “MONOWAVE”, developed by Studio BBB, has won the Best Student Game award at the Indie Game Award 2025, held during Taipei Game Show 2025. It was the only Korean entry to receive an award in this year’s competition.

Studio BBB showcased “MONOWAVE” at Taipei Game Show 2025, which took place from January 23 to 26 at TaiNEX, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. The game was selected as the final winner in the Best Student Game category out of eight award divisions.

This year’s Indie Game Award was held under the official sponsorship of Xbox, with over 340 games from 52 countries competing, marking the most competitive edition in its history. Notably, the Canadian title “Balatro” won Best Mobile Game and Best Innovation, generating significant buzz.

    Global Recognition for “MONOWAVE”

As an award winner, “MONOWAVE” has gained recognition within the global indie game industry. The game was particularly praised for its:

    • Unique emotion-driven storytelling
    • Scratch art-inspired visual style
    • Deeply immersive musical direction

The judging panel highly praised how the game blends emotions into gameplay, further solidifying its reputation as a promising indie title.

Taipei Game Show Exhibition – Connecting with Global Players

Supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), Studio BBB participated in the Korean Pavilion at the Taipei Game Show B2C exhibition, where they interacted directly with local players and received valuable feedback.

Throughout the four-day event, visitors from various countries experienced the game, with strong interest from players across Asia, including Taiwan. The Taipei Game Show 2025 attracted an estimated 370,000 attendees over its duration.

Studio BBB’s CEO, Lim Kwon-young, shared his thoughts on the reception:
“I witnessed local players naturally embracing and relating to the emotions in the game. Seeing that the theme of emotions resonated well with Taiwanese players confirmed its potential in the Chinese-speaking market.”

About “MONOWAVE” – An Emotion-Themed Puzzle Action Adventure

“MONOWAVE” is an upcoming puzzle action-adventure game in development by Studio BBB. Players control Mono, the Guardian Spirit of Emotions, who must use abilities based on the four emotions—Happiness, Sadness, Anger, and Anxiety—to solve puzzles. The game also features a “Resonance System,” allowing players to interact with the environment and share emotions through music.

A Game Born from Student Developers

Studio BBB was founded by students from Sogang University’s Art & Technology program.
CEO Lim Kwon-young expressed his excitement:
“Winning an international award in the student category just before graduation is an incredible honor—it feels like the perfect graduation gift.”

This award not only marks a significant achievement for the development team but also signals a new beginning as they transition from students to professional game developers.

    Previous Achievements and Future Plans

“MONOWAVE” has already gained recognition in Korea’s indie game scene, winning awards at:

    • MWU Korea Award 2023 (hosted by Unity Korea)
    • Indie Craft 2024
    • GIGDC 2024

Additionally, the game was showcased at major Korean gaming events, including:

    • PlayX4
    • Busan Indie Connect Festival (BIC)
    • G-STAR

Through these exhibitions, Studio BBB actively gathered player feedback, refining the game for its final release.

    Planned Release in 2025

Studio BBB is now working on finalizing “MONOWAVE” and aims to launch the game in 2025 on Steam and console platforms. The team is committed to enhancing the game’s quality and ensuring a deeply emotional experience for global players.
