[DE] A noir game about a former football player’s revenge, developed by a single person, “Tackle for Loss.”

    By Editorial Team2026년 02월 08일Updated:2026년 03월 08일4 Mins Read

Just in time for the Super Bowl season, the action indie game “Tackle for Loss” officially launched on Steam for PC on February 5th. Developed by Berlin-based one-man indie studio Indifferent Penguin, the game is a unique blend of American football and top-down action.

A revenge drama by a former American football player

Players take on the role of a former football player whose daughter is kidnapped by a criminal organization, using the skills they learned on the gridiron to fight villains. The developers say they drew inspiration from the intense action of Hotline Miami and the film “Taken.”

The game’s core is a combat system that adapts the “four-down” rule of American football. Each level allows only four tackles, and mistakes are unacceptable. Players must study the multi-story structure of the stage, predict the path, and then execute attacks.

The tension of one-shot death, three attacks are “lethal”

Since every character in the game, including the protagonist, can die in a single hit, each stage presents “highly dangerous” puzzles that require speed and precision. Fortunately, a quick restart system allows you to quickly adjust your strategy and try again without stress.

The game offers three main attack methods. **Tackle** is a lunge attack that pushes you through enemy lines, accumulating killstreak points. **Spike** is a melee attack that grabs enemies and shatters them. **Pigskin** is a ranged attack that strikes with deadly precision.

Fast-paced skill tree and combo system

Quickly eliminating enemies will extend your combo chains and increase your score multiplier, rewarding aggressive and strategic play. As you progress, you’ll unlock unique moves and attacks, and you can experiment with various skills and perks to develop and refine your combat style.

“I created this game because I love fast-paced, aggressive action games that feel amazing in your hands,” said developer Daniel Wichterich. “I wanted to create a game that interpreted the raw energy and violence of football from a completely different angle.”

Retro pixel art and dark noir

The game features a retro pixel art style, depicting violence and blood, and evokes a noir atmosphere set in the 1980s. A soundtrack composed by real musicians vividly portrays the dark underworld of the criminal underworld. It runs at 90 FPS on Steam Deck and supports both gamepads and keyboards.

It’s currently on sale for $9.34, a 15% discount to celebrate its launch, and the sale runs until February 12th. A bundle is also available, allowing you to purchase the game and soundtrack together. It supports English and German, with automatic translations available for Spanish, Simplified Chinese, French, Italian, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Turkish via DeepL.

The passion and transparency of a German solo developer

Tackle for Loss was developed full-time by Daniel Wichterich, aka Indifferent Penguin. During development, Nik Neumetzler provided key art, Riccardo Berndt provided additional pixel art, BaerSerker-Art provided promotional support, and the 1UP team provided PR and marketing support.

The developers were also transparent about their use of AI. While it was experimental during the prototype phase, all content seen in the final game was created by real people. However, they explained that the multilingual translation using DeepL was done using AI technology.

    Works supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg

This project was funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany’s film and media funding agency. Indifferent Penguin’s debut title, Tackle for Loss, represents an ambitious first step for the Berlin-based independent game studio.

The game is currently available as a demo on Steam and supports both Windows and macOS. Minimum requirements include Windows 10, an Intel Core i5 (3rd or 4th generation), 4GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or higher.
