Combos made with hundreds of cards, ‘Shroom & Gloom’ launches on September 10

    By Editorial Team2026년 08월 25일4 Mins Read
    • A unique new first-person roguelike where you slice, roast, and devour mushroom monsters
    • A bizarre world where hand-drawn art meets 3D space, a dungeon filled with madness and mushrooms catches the eye.

Global indie game publisher Devolver Digital announced that it will release ‘Shroom and Gloom,’ a first-person duel deck builder developed by Team Laserbeam, on Steam Early Access on September 10.

‘Shroom & Gloom’ is a roguelike game set in a bizarre dungeon depicted in a hand-drawn art style, where players use different decks for exploration and combat. It features the ability to create various synergies and combos using hundreds of cards, allowing players to experience new combinations and strategies every time.

In particular, the enemies (mushrooms) appearing in the game are not merely combat targets but also edible ingredients. The combat, recovery, and growth systems are integrated into one through a unique method of slashing, roasting, and devouring enemies.

Dungeon exploration enjoyed with two decks: the Exploration Deck and the Battle Deck

The biggest feature of ‘Shroom and Gloom’ is its structure of using two different decks for exploration and combat.

By utilizing the exploration deck, you can explore dark and dangerous dungeons, investigate your surroundings, and perform various actions such as breaking obstacles or activating locked spaces. Various interactions based on the cards are possible throughout the dungeon, such as starting fires, feeding animals, or repairing broken objects.

When the battle begins, switch to the battle deck and face off against the mushroom monsters blocking the path leading to the underground world, ‘The Gloom’.

Defeated enemies can be skewered, seasoned, and grilled to restore stamina. It is even possible to put them in a pot to make a soup that can turn the tide of battle. The act of defeating enemies itself leads to securing resources and growth after combat.

Card growth that gets stronger without any discarded starting cards

The card growth system is also a core element of ‘Shroom & Gloom’. Hundreds of cards appear in the game, and each card can be combined in various ways to create synergy.

In particular, low-tier cards obtained early on are not simply cards to be discarded and replaced. Players can grow basic cards into powerful attackers or modify rare cards into powerful weapons that can shake up the very flow of the game.

Through a system that does not place clear limits on card growth, it offers the fun of building your own unique build by repeating rounds and discovering powerful, unexpected combinations.

With hundreds of cards, a meta-growth system, and a variety of enemies appearing against a backdrop of intricately intertwined caves and tunnels, you can tackle the dungeon in a different way with each playthrough.

A strange mushroom world created by hand-drawn art and 3D space

The visuals also create a unique atmosphere specific to ‘Shroom and Gloom’.

The game creates a surreal atmosphere as its hand-drawn art style intertwines with 3D-rendered dungeons. Bizarre mushrooms and monsters appearing throughout also complete the dark and dreamlike worldview.

‘Shroom & Gloom’ will be released on PC Steam Early Access on September 10. Ahead of the official launch, you can experience some of the game’s content in advance through a demo on Steam.

The development team also introduces the game’s key systems and development process through separate developer diary videos. Additionally, it supports the Korean language, allowing domestic users to enjoy the game without language barriers.
