- New title developed and published by AsBar… Demo test via STOVE INDIE until the 24th
- Eye-catching maze that changes day and night, and the ability to build a new build every time with 75 types of essence skills.
The new action roguelite ‘Maze Breaker ‘ has entered demo playtest through STOVE INDIE’s game test support program, INDIE BOOST LAB.
Developed and published by the K-indie studio AsBar, ‘Maze Breaker’ is an action roguelite game set in the ever-changing maze of the Demon King. The starting point of this title is to translate the tension and atmosphere felt during the process of escaping and exploring the massive maze into the genre’s unique appeal.
This playtest will run from August 10 to 24, and the official release date has not yet been announced.
My own maze made with star fragments
The biggest feature of ‘Maze Breaker’ is its map-building system, where players create the maze themselves during the exploration process.
Players can place ‘Star Shards’ obtained while exploring the maze wherever they wish. Since paths connected by Star Shards remain even if the maze’s structure changes, unique movement routes and maps are created as exploration continues.
On connected paths, you can move quickly using ‘Starlight Sprint,’ and when the path is blocked, you can climb walls with ‘Super Jump’ to open up a new route.
Rather than simply following a set path, the process of creating a path, moving, and finding a new route is structured like a puzzle in itself.
Mastering Your Own Combat Build with the Essence of the Guardian
The ‘Guardian’s Essence’ system plays a key role in combat.
If you collect essence fragments during exploration and acquire the essences of various guardians such as trees, dragons, and wolves, your basic attacks, evasion, parrying, and charging attacks will be enhanced or change in completely different ways.
It is a structure that allows you to naturally build your own combat build through the process of selecting different integer combinations every time.
In addition, two types of weapons, 75 types of essence abilities, and various random events such as weather, traps, and monster waves have been added, allowing players to experience different situations and strategies with every playthrough.
The Demon King’s Labyrinth That Changes with Day and Night
The setting of the game is a giant demon lord’s maze where day and night exist.
Especially at night, the maze’s structure changes again, and nightmare monsters emerge from the darkness, heightening the tension of the exploration.
Players must return to a safe zone before sunset to repair their equipment and prepare for the next exploration. This creates a natural exploration rhythm, allowing them to focus on exploration and resource gathering during the day and prepare to return as night approaches.
The released screenshots and trailers reveal mazes with different themes, such as forests, snowfields, volcanoes, and rocky areas, suggesting that the game will showcase diverse visual variations even within the same roguelike structure.
Playtesting Started with a Small Sample, Focusing on User Feedback
The ongoing INDIE BOOST LAB is a game testing program by STOVE INDIE that supports indie game fans in experiencing games firsthand and providing feedback. The development team is focusing on improving the game’s quality based on user feedback prior to the official release.
The initial reaction to the demo page released on STOVE is still based on a small sample size. As of now, 50% of the six participants have recommended the game, but given the small number of participants, it is difficult to make an overall assessment of the work based on this.
As the playtest runs until August 24, the evaluation could change as more users participate. It is still in the early stages, with few separate reviews or reports from major domestic and international game media outlets to date.
With the game’s official release date yet to be announced, the extent to which user feedback collected during this playtest is reflected in the actual development process is expected to be a key point of interest in gauging the quality of ‘Maze Breaker’.
