Most horde survivors end a boss fight with a loot drop. REVENANT SURVIVORS ends it with a new body. Seoul-based Korean indie developer Mongma Studio’s debut game, a dark fantasy action roguelite, launches in Steam Early Access on November 9.
The game pairs the hack-and-slash thrill of fighting endless enemies from every direction with the challenge of a roguelite. Its central hook is a growth system built on taking the power of the enemies you defeat and making it your own.
After defeating the powerful bosses that appear at the end of each stage, players absorb their souls to gain potent skills and unique gear. Go further, and you can claim the boss’s entire body, transforming into a new playable character.
The game traces a journey of absorbing enemy power, growing ever stronger, and ultimately becoming the final boss that threatens the world. A free demo is available on Steam now.

Steal Their Skills, Take Their Bodies
REVENANT SURVIVORS combines horde-survival action with aggressive combat and character transformation. Bosses aren’t just obstacles; they’re opportunities. Absorbing a boss’s soul, skills, and gear, and taking over its body, expands the roster of playable characters.
Because each boss offers different powers, the abilities and gear you choose reshape your combat style and build. The more bosses you defeat, the wider your options become, as you turn the enemy’s strength into your own and grow into something increasingly monstrous.
Relics, Traits, and Gear
In combat, players upgrade attacks and abilities and combine relics, traits, and gear to shape a playstyle. Upgrades change attack range, timing, and behavior. As enemy pressure intensifies, the combinations you choose decide both survival and the flow of battle.
Progress continues after each run. Players spend collected souls at the Soul Altar to unlock permanent growth options and can craft and upgrade gear. These upgrades carry into later runs, laying the groundwork for tougher enemies and greater difficulty.
A New Korean Studio’s First Game
Mongma Studio ran a public Steam playtest in August and released a free demo in September. The playtest introduced the system of absorbing bosses’ souls, skills, and bodies, and the demo offers play through Chapters 1 to 3 along with boss fights.
Early Access is the stage before full release. Mongma Studio is developing the game around dark fantasy, aggressive combat, and the experience of gradually becoming a monster yourself.
Who This Is For
Strong fit for: horde-survival fans looking for a twist beyond auto-attacks and XP gems; players who love roguelite build experimentation; anyone drawn to the fantasy of becoming the monster; supporters of Korean indie debuts.
Cautious fit for: players who prefer complete releases over Early Access; anyone who needs price or language details before deciding, as the announcement doesn’t specify them.
Less ideal for: those seeking slow, story-heavy RPGs rather than fast arcade action.
The Takeaway
REVENANT SURVIVORS gives the crowded horde-survival genre a sharp, memorable hook: every boss you kill is a body you might wear next. Layered with relics, traits, gear crafting, and a Soul Altar for permanent progression, that idea has room to support a deep roguelite. After an August playtest and a September demo, Mongma Studio’s debut steps into Early Access on November 9.
