Myths fade when people stop telling them. In Talaka, the creatures inside those myths don’t fade quietly: they rot, and the world tips out of balance. Publisher Acclaim and Brazilian independent studio Potato Kid confirmed on October 8 that their watercolor action roguelite will take part in October’s Steam Next Fest, running October 19 to 26, and released an expanded demo update along with new in-game screenshots.
Players take on the role of a young warrior who believed in the Orisha gods and the legends of the ancient world. As time passed and those myths slipped from people’s memories, the beings within the legends became corrupted and began to unravel the balance of the world.

The hero travels through dreamlike landscapes to reconnect with divine power and uncover why the myths have run wild. Borrowing the strength of the Orisha, the goal is to fight corrupted spirits and twisted beasts and restore the stories and balance vanishing from the world.
The free Steam demo is set in the game’s first world. Players battle original monsters that seem to have stepped straight out of myth, take on powerful bosses, and test a range of weapon combinations and mystical abilities.
Fast Combat and 150+ Combinations
Talaka pairs fast-paced action combat with a roguelite structure. Every run brings different challenges, and players dodge and parry their way through corrupted spirits and monsters. How you combine god-blessed weapons and skills changes the feel of each fight.
The developers say weapons and skills together offer more than 150 combinations. Using abilities earned in combat, players learn enemy attack patterns as they face beings out of forgotten legends.
A World Painted in Watercolor
The game’s world is rendered in a hand-painted watercolor style. Players explore distinct regions, including the arid Sertão, the vast Pantanal wetlands, the streets of São Paulo, and a dreamlike, shadowy Dark Orun.
The newly released screenshots show new regions, creatures inspired by African and Brazilian mythology, and the weapons and mystical abilities players will wield. The developers say the demo update is designed to let Next Fest players experience the game’s world and combat in more depth.
Demo Available Now and During Next Fest
The Talaka demo is available on Steam now and will remain playable throughout Steam Next Fest from October 19 to 26.
Marc Anthony Rodriguez, Acclaim’s head of publishing and strategic partnerships, said the team is delighted by players’ interest in the game’s world, its distinctive character designs, and the African and Brazilian culture and mythology at its foundation. He added that Next Fest is a great chance to experience the game’s artistic appeal before the full adventure begins.
Talaka is scheduled for release on Steam (PC) and consoles in early 2027.
Who This Is For
Strong fit for: action roguelite fans who like dodge-and-parry combat and build variety; players interested in mythologies rarely seen in games, especially Afro-Brazilian Orisha traditions; anyone drawn to painterly, watercolor art styles; console players waiting for the 2027 release.
Cautious fit for: players who want price, language support, or specific console platforms confirmed, as none are detailed in the announcement.
Less ideal for: those who prefer slow, methodical action or non-roguelite structures.
The Takeaway
Talaka brings something genuinely different to a crowded genre: a world drawn from Afro-Brazilian mythology, from the Sertão to São Paulo to the Dark Orun, painted in watercolor and fought through with more than 150 weapon and ability combinations. The updated demo gives Next Fest players a meaningful look at the first world ahead of an early 2027 launch on PC and consoles.
Free demo on Steam now and during Steam Next Fest (October 19 to 26). Full release: early 2027.
