Korea Indie Game Association Signs MOU with UNIDEV to Foster Future Talent and Support Sustainable Growth in the Indie Game Industry
SEOUL, South Korea — [Date] — The Korea Indie Game Association (Chairman Chang-Ho Song) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UNIDEV (President Sung-Min Yoon), the nationwide university game development club federation, to promote the sustainable development of the indie game industry and nurture future talent.
Through this MOU, the two organizations will collaborate in several key areas, including:
- Joint education initiatives for training indie game developers
- Industry-academic partnerships to support employment and startups
- Co-hosting events such as game jams, conferences, seminars, and special lectures
- Expansion of practical, portfolio-based game projects
- Joint efforts to protect developer rights and revitalize the indie game market
UNIDEV, the largest university-based game development alliance in Korea, consists of self-organized game development clubs from universities nationwide. Since 2023, the organization has hosted UNICON, an annual student-led game exhibition that showcases the creativity and technical prowess of emerging developers.
Following the agreement, the Korea Indie Game Association plans to provide direct support to student developers within UNIDEV—helping them turn game projects into career or startup opportunities. This will include mentorships, industry-focused education programs, and various event collaborations that aim to bridge student creativity with the broader game industry.
Young-Gi Hong, Vice Chairman of the Korea Indie Game Association, stated,
“Game development has become more accessible thanks to engines like Unity and Unreal, but creating high-quality games is increasingly complex and demands collaboration. With this partnership, we aim to go beyond education and truly cultivate the next generation of leaders in the Korean game industry.”
Sung-Min Yoon, President of UNIDEV, commented,
“Students represent the future of the Korean gaming scene. Their untethered creativity can redefine industry direction. Through this MOU, we’ll build a collaborative and supportive environment that empowers aspiring developers to grow and challenge themselves freely.”
As the first step under this partnership, the two organizations will co-host UNICON during the upcoming ‘Contents Universe’ event scheduled for September 5–6, 2025. Future collaborations will include co-developing educational programs, joint creative support initiatives, and national-level game competitions. Student developers’ bold ideas and experimental spirit are expected to become a vital driving force in the growth of Korea’s indie game ecosystem.
