▶ 2-person German indie game developer Cyberwave’s highly anticipated healing survival game
▶ Exploration and construction without combat… The charm of “unhurried creation”
“Solarpunk,” a healing survival indie game where players build homes, cultivate crops, and journey to new islands with friends on a floating island , has surpassed 1 million Steam Wishlist purchases and released its first multiplayer trailer. This extraordinary achievement from a small development team is garnering the attention of healing game fans worldwide.
A ‘1 Million Wishlist’ game created by a two-person development team
Darmstadt-based indie publisher Rokaplay and developer Cyberwave released an official gameplay video showcasing the co-op gameplay of ‘Solarpunk’ on February 27, 2025 (local time).
What’s striking is that this game is being developed by just two developers. “Solarpunk” has consistently ranked high on Steam’s “Upcoming Games” wishlist, accumulating approximately 1 million wishlist entries. This demonstrates the high expectations of fans of the cozy and survival genre.
Supports up to 4-player cooperative play
Through this trailer Solarpunk has announced that its official release will support up to four-player online co-op (though cross-play is not supported). Gamers will be able to explore the skies with friends, gather resources, and build floating habitats powered by solar and wind energy.
The developers describe the game’s core ethos as “unhurried, shared creation.” Players can explore and build at their own pace, unfettered by the pressures of combat. Even in multiplayer, each player maintains a separate inventory, allowing for independent playstyles.
Sustainable living on an island in the sky
“Solarpunk” is a cozy survival and crafting game set in a futuristic world filled with floating islands. Players build homes in the sky, grow crops, and explore new islands aboard custom-built airships.
The game’s core system relies on renewable energy. You must generate electricity using solar, wind, and hydropower, storing it in batteries. Because energy production fluctuates depending on the weather, strategic management is essential.
A drone-based resource collection and crop management automation system has also been established. This reduces the burden of repetitive tasks and allows for more time to be invested in construction and exploration.
This game also emphasizes the value of “symbiosis.” For example, well-cared-for pigs will seek out truffles on their own, creating a structure where both animals and players benefit. Another strength is the ability to freely customize your own aerial habitat using a variety of building materials and decorative elements.
User response was positive: “Even the waiting time was enjoyable.”
The Steam community and Discord are continuing to receive positive feedback from users who experienced the demo. In particular, screenshots of user-designed buildings are being shared, raising expectations for the freedom of construction and the visual perfection it offers.
Over 50 Steam Curators “Solarpunk” was introduced, and fans of the cozy game and survival crafting genre consistently praise it as “one of the most anticipated indie games of the year.” Its structure, which allows for peaceful world creation without combat, and its incorporation of the optimistic future vision of solarpunk into the game are particularly acclaimed.
A free-to-play PC demo of the game is available on Steam. The demo lets you experience the building system, which utilizes solar panels, windmills, and power cables, as well as a partial glimpse into unlocking new building elements through the tech tree.
The official version is currently under development and is scheduled to be released in 2026, and will support 14 languages, including Korean.
