GCA supports game production utilizing K-content…Support for popular IP

    By Editorial Team2023년 07월 18일Updated:2023년 07월 19일3 Mins Read

    ○ June Selected five companies to support game production using intellectual property (IP) and signed an agreement
    ○ Provide competitive K-content intellectual property through sizeable intellectual property holders [CJ ENM, Kakao Enter, EBS]
    ○ Establish a foundation for coexistence between the provincial government, large corporations, and small and medium-sized sprout companies by providing production subsidies for small and medium-sized game developers and intellectual property of large corporations

Gyeonggi-do and Gyeonggi Content Agency (from now on referred to as GCA) announced on the 17th that they will select five small and medium-sized game developers and support game production by receiving intellectual property (IP) from large companies.

The province has been carrying out various game production support projects to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium game companies for seven years since 2017. are operating

In 2023, game production support using intellectual property will be carried out with partners such as CJ ENM (animation, entertainment, and drama fields), Kakao Enter (webtoon fields), and EBS (educational programs, character intellectual property fields). Last month, the companies signed a cooperation agreement with GCA to secure diversity in the game industry ecosystem. They lay the foundation for coexistence between large, small, and medium-sized companies.

The five companies finally selected for support include tvN’s popular entertainment shows ‘Somehow President’ and ‘The Great Escape’ (CJ ENM), Kakao Entertainment’s webtoon-based games (2), and EBS’s longest-running cooking program, which has been loved for more than 20 years. The game is being planned based on intellectual properties such as cooking secrets and is being developed to release at the end of this year.

Choi Hye-min, head of the Digital Innovation Division, said, “Gyeonggi-do operated a game production support project using intellectual property for the first time as a regional global game center in 2017 and obtained great satisfaction with high performance and various support contents.” We will continue to provide support to supplement the limitations of the public support area and generate profits by giving famous intellectual property to small and medium-sized enterprises.”

Since 2017, GCA has supported developing and releasing more than 30 game projects through various partners such as CJ ENM, Kakao Enter, EBS, Naver Webtoon, SKT, and Google. Representatively, ▲Maka & Roni (2021), which recorded more than 100,000 downloads, was produced in Korea with investment from CJ ENM as a cartoon aired on KBS and Tooniverse, and ▲Fantasy Sister (2020), which was made based on a popular webtoon ▲ Yumi’s Cells (2020) and Love Revolution (2020) also recorded more than 100,000 downloads.

A detailed description of the project can be found on the website of the Gyeonggi Content Agency (gcon.or.kr). For explicit project content or various inquiries, call (031-776-4784) or e-mail (coffee@gcon.or.kr). ) to be contacted.

Meanwhile, domestic game exports amount to $8.67 billion (as of 2021), accounting for about 70% of content exports. This figure resembles Korea’s major export item, secondary batteries ($ 8.67 billion). In particular, the province is the center of the game industry, accounting for 47% (KRW 9.8 trillion) of domestic game industry sales. It ranks #1 in the country.
