Gyeonggi-do, a metaverse/realistic content support project with a total budget of 2.4 billion won

    By Editorial Team2022년 03월 21일3 Mins Read

Gyeonggi-do is conducting 4 open calls for support projects to foster cultural technology companies and expand the content base.

Culture Technology (CT) refers to the overall technology that develops, produces, distributes, and services contents where culture art or design and technology meet. Representative examples include immersive content that provides an experience similar to the real world by applying XR (extended reality) technology, and a metaverse (extended virtual world) platform based on digital twins (real world objects are implemented in the virtual world).

The four cultural technology support projects that the provincial government is offering this time are ▲ support for commercialization of cultural technology ▲ support for production of cultural technology public contents ▲ support for immersive contents research and development ▲ support for development of local specialized contents.

First of all, ‘Support for commercialization of cultural technology’ is about providing up to KRW 100 million each to a total of 5-6 companies to discover and commercialize commercial content for cultural technology companies in the province. Not only content development, but also distribution connection and investment attraction are focused on the company’s sustainable growth.

The ‘Cultural Technology Public Content Production Support Project’ supports the production of content for the public interest using cultural technology. Deploying public campaigns using cultural technologies such as ‘digital signage’, which receives a lot of attention by transmitting three-dimensional content through an extra-large LED signage, and ‘metaverse platform’, where you can experience social activities and exchanges through avatars in virtual space you should be able to A total of 5 companies will be selected and additional support will be provided for each project production subsidy of 50 million won and media support for content expression. The application period for both commercialization support and production support contest is until 2 pm on April 5th.

The ‘realistic content R&D support project’ is about research and development of core technologies in the cultural technology field. There are a total of three recruitment tasks, including two designated tasks and one free task, such as ‘technology development of realistic content to reduce carbon emissions’ and ‘technology development based on metaverse combining virtual and real space’, which are the buzzwords of the industry. 3 billion won per project. The selected tasks will be announced at the ‘Culture Technology Exhibition’ scheduled to be held in October this year. The application period is until 2pm on April 11th.

‘Regional-specific content development support’ is a project that supports the development of content using Gyeonggi-do materials such as history, people, nature and life. KRW 100 million to 150 million won each will be provided for a total of 6 projects, including 2 free competitions in all fields of broadcasting, webtoon, and music content, 2 applications for animation, and 2 applications for realistic content. The application period is from March 21st to April 11th at 2pm.

The target of public offering support is companies located in Gyeonggi-do or companies scheduled to relocate to Gyeonggi-do. For more information, please check the website of the Gyeonggi Content Promotion Agency ( www.gcon.or.kr ) in the notification field (business announcement). In addition to this contest, the provincial government is planning to promote various projects to create an industrial ecosystem related to culture and technology and to enjoy the culture of local residents, such as a project to support the demonstration of realistic content in connection with local resources, a project to foster cultural technology talents, and exhibitions and conferences for cultural technology.

An official from Gyeonggi-do said, “Cultural technology is a key technology for Korea’s content industry to enter the global market in the post-corona era.
