The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Bo-Gyun Park) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (President Hyun-Rae Cho, hereafter referred to as KOCCA) hold the ‘2022 Korea Youth Game Jam’ to nurture key talents in the future game industry and strengthen their career capabilities through challenges. Participants are invited by July 31st.
‘Game jam’ is an event where people with talents in game development, design, planning, etc. make an impromptu team to create a game of the prototype stage within a set time. Experience the game development process in the real world and promote growth as a game developer. KOCCA operates various programs for youth, such as game jam and ‘game culture family camp’, and is striving to establish a healthy game culture and realize education through games.
◆ Acquiring practical experience through team project development. Recruitment of 100 youths nationwide
The ‘Korea Youth Game Jam’, which marks its 7th anniversary this year, will be held for 3 days and 2 nights by recruiting 100 participants from all over the country for 17-19 year olds who are interested in game development or are thinking about setting their career path.
Recruitment field is divided into ▲20 people in the planning job group that oversees the game concept and overall direction ▲40 people in the art job group in charge of characters, backgrounds, and BGM needed for the game ▲40 people in the programming job group that deals with programs necessary for coding. This year, in order to provide more opportunities and experiences to young people, multiple applications for occupations were allowed.
Participants can improve their job understanding by forming a team for each job group and working on a project to develop a single game. In addition, they have the opportunity to demonstrate and evaluate games developed by their peers, and to check themselves.
◆ Mentors of incumbent workers increased by 1.5 times.. Provide advice to strengthen career competencies
In the field of development, game ideas for all platforms except consoles such as mobile, PC, VR, and AR can be proposed. In each field, such as planning, programming, and art, an expert mentor group, which is 1.5 times larger than the previous year, will be assigned to share warm advice and experiences such as feedback on the game development process, advice on career paths, and final product inspection.
At the event site, there is an entertainment zone equipped with various devices such as retro games, doll drawing, VR, etc., and a variety of snacks and foods. Various convenience facilities are available so that you can focus on game development.
This event will be held at the ‘Dongbu Warehouse’, a civic culture and art base space of the Cheongju Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation, and a number of developers in the Chungbuk Global Game Center will serve as mentors. In addition, with the cooperation of the UNESCO International Archives and Heritage Center located in Cheongju-si, the group seeks to discover local talents through collaboration with regional base organizations, such as preparing lectures and topic selection.
