Fogo Games, an independent studio based in São Paulo, Brazil, has officially released its highly anticipated pixel-art top-down shooter, “Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad,” on January 16, 2026. Published by Nuntius Games and Vsoo Games, the title is earning praise for its unique fusion of zombie-slaying action with the vibrant graffiti and street culture of Brazilian favelas.
A Zombie Apocalypse in the Favelas
While inspired by the real-world outskirts of São Paulo, Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad aims to represent the identity of urban ghettos worldwide. The game follows four mutant teenagers who become humanity’s last hope, fighting off hordes of the undead in a stylized, humor-packed apocalypse.
The game’s primary hook is the Graffiti System. Beyond just killing zombies, players must mark their territory by tagging the city. However, “art has never been so dangerous”—every time you stop to spray a mural, you risk summoning an entire horde of zombies drawn to the activity. This risk-reward loop adds a strategic layer to the traditional shooter mechanics.
Wacky Weapons and Diverse Undead
The game embraces a lighthearted, over-the-top tone with its arsenal and enemy design:
- The Arsenal: Over 70 wacky weapons, including the Ketchup Blaster, Gumball Shooter, Shark-Head Shotgun, and even a Witch’s Broom.
- The Horde: 22 types of zombies, such as “Puppy Zombies,” muscle-bound police zombies, and a Frankenstein wearing only underwear.
- The Structure: The game is divided into 4 chapters, each containing roughly 10 stages. Every chapter culminates in a battle with the boss “Carne Seca,” who returns with new mutations and abilities as the story progresses.
Authentic Representation: “The Hood as the Protagonist”
What truly sets Ghetto Zombies apart is the background of its developers. Fogo Games was founded in 2020 by alumni of FATEC Carapicuíba who all hail from the favelas themselves. Their mission—“The Hood as the Protagonist”—is reflected in the game’s storytelling, music, and visual tradition.
By using the zombie genre as a medium to share Latin American street culture, Fogo Games is being highlighted as a significant example of diversity and inclusion within the global indie game industry.
“We didn’t just want to make another shooter; we wanted to show the world the energy, the art, and the resilience of where we come from,” said Fabio Pacheco, Director of Fogo Games.
