AI in Game Development is Now a Reality: GCA Releases “Practical AI Game Production Manual”

    AI로 게임 만들기, 이제는 현실이다
    By Desk2024년 03월 19일Updated:2026년 01월 03일3 Mins Read

The Gyeonggi Content Agency (GCA), in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Industry Cluster Agency, has released a comprehensive manual titled “2023 Future Game Tech Validation Support AI Game Production Manual.” This resource serves as a systematic guide for studios looking to integrate AI into 2D mobile game development, providing methodologies that can be immediately applied to live production environments.

    1. Visual Resources: Reducing Art Production Time with Stable Diffusion

The first section of the manual focuses on Stable Diffusion, an image-generation AI. The core objective is to optimize the visual asset creation process, which typically consumes the largest portion of a game’s budget and timeline.

    • Style Consistency via LoRA: Beyond simple image generation, the manual introduces LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation). This technique allows developers to train the AI on specific character designs or art styles, ensuring visual consistency across the entire game.
    • A-to-Z Workflow: It covers the entire pipeline—from concept planning and reference collection to local installation of Stable Diffusion WebUI, prompt engineering, and post-processing using various plugins.

    2. Intelligent NPCs: Real Conversations Powered by BERT

The second section introduces a method to create intelligent NPCs capable of Q&A using Google’s BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) language model.

    • Beyond Scripted Dialogue: Unlike traditional NPCs that repeat fixed lines, these AI-driven characters can answer player questions in a way that aligns with the game’s specific lore and world-building.
    • Fine-Tuning for Games: The manual guides developers through setting up a deep learning environment, fine-tuning pre-trained Korean language models, and creating custom datasets for game-specific rules.
    • Deployment & Integration: Crucially, it includes the deployment process using TorchServe and integration with the Unity client, allowing developers to bridge the gap between a trained model and a playable game.

A Paradigm Shift for Small and Mid-sized Developers

This manual confirms that AI is no longer just a “support tool” but is becoming a core development engine. For indie studios, this opens the door to high-quality production even with limited staff and funding.

“Many developers wanted to adopt AI but didn’t know where to start. This manual is meaningful because it covers the entire journey—from local environment setup to actual server deployment,” noted an industry insider.
