Supercat (CEO Kim Young-eul) released the 2023 year-end financial settlement infographic on the 28th, summarizing the main journey of its indie game platform ‘PUNKLAND’ for one year.
According to the infographic, this year’s Punk Land sales increased approximately 40% compared to the previous year, recording the highest sales ever. The platform renewal carried out last January played an essential role in achieving maximum sales. Through renewal and follow-up updates, ▲support for cross-play between mobile apps and PC web ▲introduction of AI image generator to increase development convenience ▲distribution of various resources necessary for game production, etc., there was a steady influx of new developers and users.
One thousand thirty-eight new game developers were introduced to Punkland this year, and they developed 3,076 games. Among these, ▲Haru 95, ▲GM Cuckoo, ▲GM Massirak, ▲Dinghye, and ▲High Jump were selected as the new rising developers that stood out.
The cumulative number of games played by Punkland users per year is 84 million, and the cumulative play time is 28.6 billion seconds, converted to days, which is about 330,000 days. New game characters were created 490,000 times, and the number of item transactions between users was 1.2 million times. Users actively played games on the platform.
‘Daksa RPG,’ a new combination RPG combining idle raising and MMORPG, was selected as the ‘Punkland Game of the Year.’ Daksa RPG is a game released in July by 33 Games, a one-person developer in Punkland. It received attention by exceeding 100 million won in sales within 13 days of service and reaching 500 million won in sales within 50 days of service. Thanks to constant updates and user communication, it is currently recording the highest sales for a single game, exceeding 900 million won in cumulative sales.
Punkland’s top 3 sales games were Daksa RPG, followed by the game ‘Asran Electric,’ produced by developer ‘Outlaw,’ in second place, and the game ‘Corbus,’ made by developer ‘Yunto,’ in third place. The top 3 popular games were Raising a Demon Swordsman, produced by developer BF Roen, following Doctor Who RPG, and Aslan Chronicles.
Ha Young-min, Punkland team leader, said, “We were able to see good results as a result of our efforts to grow into a platform for game developers and users to enjoy together, a comprehensive indie game community, and a playground for indie gamers.” He added, “We will continue to work with game developers on the platform in 2024.” “We will listen to exactly what users want and strive to continuously develop by reflecting this.”
