Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyung-Joon), Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency (Director Jeong Mun-seop), and the Busan Indie Connect Festival Organizing Committee (Chairman Seo Tae-gun, from now on referred to as the BIC Organizing Committee) organize ‘Busan Indie Connect Festival 2023 (BIC Festival 2023, from now on referred to as BIC Festival 2023). It was announced on the 7th that the BIC Festival 2023)’ competition section and Connect Pick section exhibition works were confirmed.
This year’s domestic and foreign applications for ‘BIC Festival 2023’ increased by about 31% compared to the previous year, and 142 works were finally selected after fierce competition and a strict screening process. ▲Sixty-seven works were chosen for the general category, ▲55 works were selected for the rookie category (students or unemployed workers under the age of 25), and ▲20 works were selected for the non-competitive class, Connect Pick (works that were released more than a year ago or past BIC exhibits).
The works supported for this ‘BIC Festival 2023’ stood out for their leveled-up quality. The selection of the exhibition works was a more complex process than before, and the judging committee held heated discussions over the selected works for quite a long time. There are many high-quality submissions, so anticipation is also gathering for non-competitive exhibits other than the competition and Connect Pick sections.
The works exhibited at the ‘BIC Festival,’ a global representative indie game festival, are achieving notable achievements in the game industry every year. This year’s BIC Festival will be held online and offline, and participating indie game developers will be able to publicize their games through various channels and receive feedback from many users.
The final exhibition works will be released on the BIC official website through Demo Day on July 20th. During Demo Day, the ‘Big Connectors 3rd’ activities are expected to join this year’s event. The ‘3rd Big Connectors love indie games and the BIC Festival and will act as a guide so visitors can enjoy the ‘BIC Festival 2023’ more happily through various activities such as writing reviews during the Demo Day. Is expected.
‘BIC Festival 2023’ will hold an online exhibition on the BIC official website from August 17th and open an offline event at BEXCO in Busan on August 25th. This event can be enjoyed by anyone interested in indie games and is expected to be enriched with various content, such as original events and a surprise parade of game characters from BIC exhibits.
This year, the BIC Organizing Committee introduced a ‘non-competitive booth sales’ system for public institutions to provide more developers with opportunities to exhibit. The non-competition booth exhibition is also used as a communication channel between developers and gamers and provides an opportunity to collect feedback from various gamers. This year, it is hoped that the works not selected in the competition section and the Connect Pick section will also be able to seize the opportunity to exhibit at the ‘BIC Festival 2023’ through the ‘non-competition booth sales system. ‘Non-competition booth sales’ are still in progress.
BIC Festival Organizing Committee Chairman Seo Tae-gun said, “Thanks to the support for the BIC Festival, which is returning to a greatly expanded scale by moving the venue to BEXCO in Busan, a total of 142 works have been confirmed for exhibition in this year’s competition section and Connect Pick section.” Seeing the steady increase in the number of submissions for exhibitions, I feel like indie developers worldwide are recognizing me. As an event that does my best in discovering and exhibiting indie games, I hope that indie developers around the world will have a chance to make their name known.” revealed
