- Developed by the Japanese two-person development team Nulpoyo, free single-player demo available
- A new city generated every round, party golf action where up to 8 players hit shots simultaneously
A unique indie golf game that uses the entire complex forest of buildings and roads as the field is coming.
“Crazy City Golf,” an online party golf game developed by the Japanese two-person indie development team Nulpoyo, will be officially released on the PC (Steam) platform on October 25. The developers have completed preparations for launch and opened the Steam store page, while also releasing a free demo version that anyone can enjoy in advance.
The game is a chaotic party game where up to eight players take shots simultaneously across a city. Moving away from traditional sports games, it features the freedom to forge your own path, such as safely sending the ball along roads, cutting through narrow alleys, or shooting it over building rooftops.
Currently, tags such as #Golf, #Party Game, #Physics, #Procedural Generation, #Stylized, #Colorful, and #3D are registered on the Steam page, foreshadowing a colorful and enjoyable round based on physics integration.
A city created anew in every round
The city in ‘Crazy City Golf’ is newly generated for every round. According to the developers, locations such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, pyramids, and amusement parks appear. While the city layout remains consistent throughout a round, the hitting point and the location of the cup change for each hole.
Cups can be placed not only on roads but also inside buildings, on rooftops, on islands at sea, and on the decks of anchored ships. It is important to examine the surrounding terrain, such as rivers, bridges, parks, and high-rise buildings, to find the optimal path.
A speeding car and an exploding drum, an accident becomes a shortcut.
In the game, various elements of the city affect the movement of the ball. The ball can bounce off passing cars, and hitting a red drum or tanker truck causes an explosion. Touching a fire hydrant can cause a column of water to shoot up. Explosions can send the shot flying off to the wrong place, but conversely, they can also provide an unexpected opportunity to send the ball close to the cup.
There are over 20 types of items. You can obtain items by passing through item boxes placed throughout the city, and then use them to use on yourself or to disrupt all other players.
For example, ‘Power Up’ allows you to increase your own distance or send a competitor’s ball flying far. With ‘Rewind,’ it is also possible to recover from your own mistakes or disrupt an opponent’s good shots. You can also use Meteors and Tornadoes to create shortcuts or block other players’ progress.
Three modes and an unpredictable awards ceremony
There are three modes in the game. ‘Stroke Play (CUP)’ is the basic golf mode where you put the ball into the cup with the fewest strokes. In ‘Checkpoint Race,’ you must reach the cup after passing through all checkpoints regardless of order. The faster you finish, the higher your score.
‘Turn War’ is a mode where players compete for bases located throughout the city. The more bases a player captures, the higher their score becomes, and players who put the ball into the cup are awarded extra points.
It is up to the player to decide whether to secure more bases or finish the hole to claim points. In the lobby settings, you can also adjust whether to use items, the number and length of holes, and wind speed.
An indie game made by two colleagues after work
Nulpoyo is a Japanese indie team consisting of two colleagues working at the same company who balance their regular jobs with game development. According to the developer, the two start developing after work and sometimes work until it is already 5 a.m. They explain that their all-night golf session ends only around the time actual golfers are preparing for their first tee shot.
The free demo currently available on Steam is single-player only, allowing you to compete against three CPU opponents. The full version supports online multiplayer for 2 to 8 players. Supported languages are English and Japanese; Korean is not supported. The price has not yet been announced.
‘Crazy City Golf’ is a party game that focuses on using humor to resolve accidents and disruptions within the city, rather than the precision of golf itself. If you are looking to enjoy a boisterous match with friends, it is recommended to try the free demo first to get a feel for the shots and items.
