    Slay the Spire 2 Shatters Records: 570K Concurrent Players in Just 4 Days

    Mega Crit’s deThe tower has never been more crowded. Slay the Spire 2, the long-awaited sequel from Mega Crit, has been obliterating records since its Steam Early Access launch on March 5, 2026. As of the weekend, the game has officially entered the Steam Top 20 All-Time for concurrent players, cementing its status as the definitive indie phenomenon of the year.

    Entering the Steam Hall of Fame

    According to SteamDB, the game peaked at an astonishing 573,000 concurrent players on Sunday, March 8. This meteoric rise has pushed the deckbuilder past legendary titles such as Terraria, Valheim, and the recent Resident Evil Requiem.

    Perhaps most notably, it has completely overshadowed Bungie’s AAA debut, Marathon, which launched on the same day. While Marathon peaked at a respectable 88,337 CCU, Slay the Spire 2 maintains a lead of nearly 7 times that amount.

    A New Standard for Roguelikes

    The success isn’t just in the numbers; it’s in the reception. With over 15,000 reviews and a 97% “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, the sequel is being hailed as a “masterclass in evolution.”

    Mega Crit co-founder Anthony Giovannetti expressed his disbelief on social media:

    “We’re completely overwhelmed. We knew people wanted more Slay the Spire, but seeing over half a million people climbing the Spire together is beyond anything we imagined.”

    The “Co-op” Evolution

    The most significant addition in the sequel is the 4-player online co-op mode. Unlike previous attempts to mod multiplayer into the original, StS2 builds it into the core logic of the Godot engine.

    • Shared Map Progression: Coordinate routes with your team to maximize buffs.
    • Team Synergies: Use a teammate’s debuff to trigger powerful follow-up combos.
    • Scaling Difficulty: Enemies have massive health pools and unique behaviors designed to challenge a full party of four.

    The developers expect the Early Access period to last between 1 and 2 years, with a steady stream of new characters, Alternate Acts, and “Timeline” progression planned before the 1.0 release.
