- A new fast-paced, combat-focused RPG from a solo developer in Singapore
- Art style inspired by Tetsuya Nomura… Steam demo revealed
- A roguelike hack-and-slash game where you cycle through four abilities to defeat hordes of demons
Andrew Teo, a solo developer from Singapore, has unveiled his new game , ‘Shadow Rush’ .
‘Shadow Rush’ is a roguelike hack-and-slash RPG featuring an isometric (quarter-view) perspective. Players can enjoy stylish combat by unleashing dynamic charges and intense attack combos against hordes of endlessly surging shadow demons.
Developer Andrew Teo is raising expectations among gamers by revealing that the new game’s unique art style was “greatly inspired by the art style of world-renowned designer Tetsuya Nomura, famous for the ‘Final Fantasy’ series.”
‘Shadow Rush’, which depicts a desperate struggle against shadow demons, is accelerating development with the goal of releasing it on the global PC game platform Steam in 2027 .
4-stage combat triggered by charges and attacks
Combat in ‘Shadow Rush’ is a system where abilities automatically cycle whenever you attack or dash.
Players set four abilities in their equipment slots. During combat, different abilities and magic are activated in sequence depending on the currently active stage.
The developer explained that they aimed for combat that reduces the burden of having to press multiple hotkeys simultaneously while preserving quick judgment and a sense of speed.
If time is delayed, waves of darkness will engulf the battlefield.
The game is designed with more emphasis on offense and movement than defense. Health recovery items are provided in abundance, so it is more advantageous to focus on quickly eliminating enemies rather than getting bogged down in minor damage.
If it takes too long to clear an area, a massive wave of darkness engulfs the battlefield, leading to a ‘Game Over’. Conversely, if you eliminate the enemies within the time limit, you receive a completion reward and proceed to the next area.
6 characters and shard-based builds
Players select one of six characters to play as. Each character uses a different weapon, allowing for a distinct combat style.
Equipping collectible items called ‘Shards’ allows you to add magic and special abilities. It is also possible to configure auto-activating skills that create synergy depending on the combination of Shards.
Shards are easy to equip or swap between characters. You can use this to create your own ‘Shard Deck’ and repeatedly test various builds.
A new solo game by ‘Ghostor’ developer Andrew Teo
Andrew Teo is a veteran game developer from Singapore. He has experience working on projects utilizing existing intellectual property (IP), such as Disney’s ‘One Piece’.
The predecessor, ‘Ghostlore’, is an action RPG where players fight monsters from Southeast Asian folklore. The developers introduced the game as an ‘Eastpunk’ title. ‘Ghostlore’ was released on Xbox One in November 2022 and on Steam in May 2023, and has received approximately 700 reviews, recording a ‘Very Positive’ rating.
Teo is reportedly currently developing an undisclosed project called ‘Ruin and Rebirth’ alongside ‘Shadow Rush’.
Shadow Rush features combat that cycles through four abilities, time limits for clearing zones, and shard combinations. Ahead of its 2027 release, a demo has been unveiled that allows players to experience the game’s combat and build composition in advance. However, details such as the official release date, publisher, and supported languages have not yet been revealed.
