Gachon University Department of Game and Visual Arts held the ‘Gachon Game Jam’ for freshmen in 2023

    By Editorial Team2023년 02월 16일Updated:2023년 06월 24일4 Mins Read

Gachon University (President Lee Gil-ya) Game and Video Department announced that it held the ‘Gachon GameJam’ as part of a pre-university program for freshmen of the year 2023 on February 11th and 12th.

A game jam is an event in which a team is formed under a given theme on the day of the event without prior preparation to create a playable game. Gachon University upgraded the pre-university program and operated a collaborative project called Game Jam. to nurture

This year’s Gachon Game Jam was co-hosted by Gachon University’s Department of Game and Video and Delicious Games Co., Ltd. Delicious Games Co., Ltd. is a young but strong game company that developed the Zepeto Metaverse game etc. A total of 11 field developers were put in as game jam management and mentors to provide teaching and on-site mentoring by job during the game jam period.

The first round of this year, ‘Gacheon Game Jam,’ allows pre-university students to experience practical game projects, which are the foundation of game development, so that students can understand the department as well as improve field practical skills and communicate through direct exchanges with field developers. It aims to provide opportunities for

Gachon University Department of Game Imaging Department Director Kim Jeong-Yoon, who planned this event, said, “Contrary to the majority of concerns about whether pre-college students who have just graduated from high school can make a playable game in a short period of two days, the student’s attitude and passion for development was different. After each team was assigned and the game concept was presented, the students started developing the game with fresh ideas and teamwork. Came to Faculty and practitioners all praised and encouraged all participating teams to complete a game with a degree of perfection in various genres and concepts, from side-scrolling running action, adventure puzzle, and 2D platformer to casual shooting.” and highly evaluated the ability of pre-university students to carry out successful projects.

In addition, the satisfaction level of the students who participated in the ‘Gachon Game Jam’ of the preparatory college was 4.77 points (out of 5 points). It was evaluated as a very informative event I could understand and experience.

Park Eun-jin, a pre-university student at the Department of Game Imaging at Gachon University, who was in charge of programming for this game jam, said, “I’m from a general high school, and I haven’t had a chance to collaborate with friends who are interested in game production. I was able to complete the game without any problems, and I am very satisfied that I had a great experience before enrolling.”

Shin Seung-ho, a student from Deokyeong High School who participated in the game jam, expressed great satisfaction after a difficult two-day schedule, saying, “As a high school student, I was able to team up with my seniors and experience the project. It was a very beneficial experience and a great learning opportunity.”.

Lee Hyun-jin, CEO of Delicious Games, who co-hosted the game jam, also said, “I was once again surprised by the outstanding skills and enthusiasm of pre-university students as they entered through a high competition rate of 7.08:1. I realized the students’ hidden skills and endless possibilities, and I think I can solve the problem of manpower shortage in the current content industry through these talented people,” revealing great expectations for prospective college students unique to Gachon University.

Gachon University’s Department of Game and Video, an early employment type contract department, directly participates in the admission process and selects new students jointly with the university. During the first year, students receive intensive courses on basic skills in their major and basic training in fieldwork. During the 2nd and 3rd years, students have the strength to enter the industrial field as professional manpower while acquiring a bachelor’s degree by advancing job competency in the industrial field along with in-depth education related to the job. It is possible to acquire expertise in the field and use time efficiently, such as a company-customized curriculum, scholarship benefits, early employment, and two years of experience upon graduation.
