Global gaming giant Gravity has officially announced the global release of “Little Gods of the Abyss” (심연의 작은 존재들) as of January 22, 2026. Developed by the independent studio PLAY Mephistowaltz, this 3D platformer arrives after four years in Early Access, during which it refined its unique blend of artistic storytelling and challenging gameplay.
A Wordless Narrative in a Fairytale World
“Little Gods of the Abyss” distinguishes itself through a purely emotional narrative. Players step into the role of Nia, a small deity tasked with purifying a world distorted by the contamination of the “Primeval Gate.”
- Environmental Storytelling: The game features no dialogue or text. Instead, the story unfolds through changes in the environment, evocative music, and the protagonist’s movements.
- Artistic Visuals: The game uses a fairytale-inspired art style to contrast themes of serenity and anxiety, creating a deeply immersive atmosphere.
Challenging Mechanics: “The Dark Souls of Mario”
Despite its soft visuals, the game is known for its high level of difficulty, earning it the nickname “Dark Souls Mario” among early players.
- Precision Control: Success hinges on mastering jump, dodge, and glide mechanics across shifting terrains and intricate mazes.
- Tactical Puzzles: Every stage introduces unique devices and timing-based gimmicks that require both sharp reflexes and logical thinking to overcome.
Global Recognition and Studio Profile
Before its full launch, the game built a strong reputation across major international events, including G-STAR, Tokyo Game Show, PAX EAST, Taipei Game Show, and Gamescom. It has received numerous accolades, such as the TGS Indie Prize and the IndieCraft Award.
About the Developer: PLAY Mephistowaltz Based in Changwon, South Korea, the studio operates under the slogan “We make games, steadily.” Founded in 2017, it has grown from a solo project into a team of ten, consistently winning awards for innovation and graphic design.
“The official release features even more detailed graphics and a wider variety of stages compared to the Early Access version,” said Jin-on Park, Business Team Lead at Gravity.
