Korea Game Developers Association Holds Awards Ceremony for “GIGDC 2025”

    By Editorial Team2025년 11월 04일Updated:2025년 11월 05일2 Mins Read

Celebrating Creativity and Global Potential in Indie Game Development

The 2025 Global Indie Game Development Contest (GIGDC 2025) — hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), organized by the Korea Game Developers Association (KGDA), and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism — successfully concluded its awards ceremony on October 31 at Stage 66, KOCCA Content Culture Plaza in Dongdaemun, Seoul.

Held under the slogan “Create Game, Hello World! – Turning Imagination into Reality through Games,” the ceremony celebrated Korea’s emerging indie developers, recognizing their innovation, creativity, and potential to compete on the global stage.

Record Participation and Expanded Support for Indie Creators

This year’s contest, open for submissions from June 30 to July 14, received over 300 entries, reaffirming GIGDC’s position as Korea’s most prestigious indie game competition.

Following a rigorous judging process, winners were selected across five categories — three in game production and two in game planning — with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award presented to the top prize recipients.

GIGDC 2025 also saw a significant increase in total prize money, sparking strong engagement from the indie community. Beyond cash awards, winners will receive mentorship, marketing assistance, and educational program connections, ensuring sustained development and opportunities for global market expansion.

    Inspiring Stories from Past Winners

One of the highlights of the ceremony was a series of special talks by past GIGDC winners who have gone on to achieve remarkable success. Speakers shared experiences ranging from developing games during military service and securing seed investment to launching titles on the Nintendo Switch and reaching international audiences. These stories served as both inspiration and practical guidance for new developers entering the industry.

    Voices from the Industry

Shin Yong-hoon, President of the Korea Game Developers Association, praised the participants:

“The creativity and individuality displayed in this year’s entries reaffirm the bright future of Korea’s game industry. I believe today’s winners will become the next generation of leaders shaping the future of our industry.”

Empowering Korea’s Global Indie Game Ecosystem

The GIGDC 2025 Awards were more than a competition — it was a platform for aspiring creators to connect, share ideas, and prepare for international success. The event once again underscored the growing importance of indie talent as a driving force in Korea’s global game development landscape.

Details about the winners and their projects are available on the official GIGDC website: gigdc.or.kr.
