Busan-based indie developer Sunny Side Up announced that its healing adventure PC game , Little Witch in the Woods, has surpassed 500,000 cumulative sales on Steam.
Achieving 500,000 sales in the global market without a separate major publisher is an exceptional achievement and is drawing attention as a case that once again proves the global competitiveness of K-indie games.

“The Little Witch in the Woods” is an adventure RPG that depicts the journey of Ellie, an apprentice witch dispatched to a witch’s house to help the village and grow into a full-fledged witch. As Ellie, players can enjoy lifestyle content such as collecting various materials like mandragora and slime, crafting potions, and interacting with villagers. With the addition of diverse elements like fishing, bonding with cats, furniture crafting, and room decorating, the game offers a healing experience characteristic of cozy games, accompanied by warm pixel art.

Little Witch in the Woods garnered attention even before its release, achieving 1,366% of its funding goal with 4,652 backers on Tumblbug crowdfunding in July 2020. Upon its release on Steam Early Access, it captured the attention of global gamers, surpassing 1.2 million wishlist items.
Just before the official release, there was an incident where the schedule was adjusted to avoid overlapping with Hollow Knight Silksong’s release date.
At the time, the development team included an illustration parodying Pepe the Frog with the witch Ellie along with the announcement; as this melancholic yet cute image spread across domestic communities, it generated an unintended viral marketing effect. As a result, an increasing number of gamers who were unaware of the title purchased it out of curiosity, and this anecdote remains a representative “blessing in disguise” episode of The Little Witch of the Woods.

The version officially released on September 15, 2025, features a significant addition of new regions, creatures, and stories of new characters, as well as new lifestyle content such as fishing, interacting with cats, interacting with villagers, crafting furniture, and decorating rooms.
The developer has continued to provide updates since the official launch, and a recent major update added ‘Archives’ content where players can display various collectibles and constellations. Currently, the Steam user rating remains ‘Very Positive’.
