▶ First unveiled at GDC 2026 Future Games Show… Simultaneous release on PS5 and PC
▶ Next-generation side-scrolling roguelike combining aerial combos and procedurally generated dungeons
Publisher Skystone Games and developer Streetlamp Studio announced that they will simultaneously release the anime-style side-scrolling roguelike action platformer ‘SlashZero’ on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).
The game was first unveiled at the Future Games Show (FGS) Spring Showcase held during GDC on March 12, and a Steam playtest is scheduled to begin soon.
‘Time Hacker’ tracking the truth of collapsed time
Slash Zero tells the story of a ‘Timehacker’ exploring an unstable time loop in a world where the temporal order has collapsed. Players must traverse fragmented timelines to track the root cause of the temporal breakdown and move between multiple parallel realities to find clues to reverse history.
The ultimate goal is to defeat the ‘Lord of the Void’ who lies behind the cyberpunk world. The core narrative of the game is formed by the process of uncovering hidden truths one by one in a world where time is twisted.
From 2D Pixel Art to 3D Animation… Setting a New Standard for the Genre
Slash Zero is a work created with 3D animation-based visuals, departing from the developer’s existing pixel art style.
The combat system seeks differentiation by designing it with vertical movement and aerial maneuverability in a 3D space as its core. Players will engage in combat centered on vertical movement and aerial maneuvers utilizing the 3D environment. By combining aerial combos, charge attacks, and various movement techniques, players can create fast and dynamic battles. In particular, through continuous aerial attacks and a diverse combo system, players can build their own unique combat style.
The procedural generation system, which is the core fun of roguelikes, has also been meticulously implemented. Since new environment layouts, challenges, and power-up combinations appear every time, the game is designed to keep players engaged even after multiple playthroughs.
Streetlamp Studio producer Jun stated, “We wanted to push the boundaries of the side-scrolling roguelike genre with Slash Zero,” adding, “We will provide a spectacular action experience that rewards players’ skills through high-quality 3D animation and a simultaneous release on console and PC.”
‘Triple I’, a new trend in the indie game industry
‘Slash Zero’ defines itself as a ‘Triple I’ title. This refers to a new development trend that pursues visuals and production scale close to AAA while maintaining the creativity and freedom characteristic of indie games. It is currently garnering attention as a new production method that independent studios are attempting to bridge the gap between AAA and indie.
A meeting between an indie game studio and the creator of Diablo
Streetlamp Studio is an indie game studio that continues to make new attempts centered on the roguelike action genre, pursuing experimental game designs that combine fast combat tempos with procedural generation systems. This title, ‘Slash Zero,’ is a project that expands a step beyond existing pixel-based indie action games, aiming to present a new direction for the side-scrolling roguelike genre by combining 3D animation styles with a vertical combat system.
Publisher Skystone Games is a global game publisher founded by David Brevik, well known as the core creator of the ‘Diablo’ series, and industry veteran Bill Wang. Under the philosophy of “discovering hidden gem games that are special but have not yet received attention,” they are discovering projects from indie developers around the world.
We have previously handled the global publishing of distinctive indie titles such as Mistfall Hunter, Tiny Bookshop, Crystal of Atlan, and HELLCARD. Slash Zero is also a new title presented under this philosophy, garnering attention as a ‘Triple I’ project that combines the creativity of indie games with AAA-level visuals.
Community attention focused immediately after release
Immediately after the game’s reveal, reactions from the community have been following closely behind, noting the combination of the cyberpunk worldview and 3D animation style, as well as the originality of the vertical combat system.
In particular, the combination of rich animation direction and a procedural generation system is being praised as a differentiating factor from existing side-scrolling roguelikes, and the number of additions to Steam wishlists has been rapidly increasing since its release.
