- The Scale: A massive 30-hour supernatural mystery across 6 chapters—triple the size of its predecessor.
- The Hook: A unique “Document Combination” reasoning system paired with the narrative-flipping “Retro System.”
- The Collaboration: Sound produced by Studio EIM (known for Lies of P and Limbus Company).
- The Legacy: The second numbered title in the “Tetrapod Saga” by the award-winning Team Tetrapod.
The “Staffer” series is going multi-platform. Team Tetrapod has officially announced that their highly anticipated supernatural mystery adventure, Staffer Retro: A Supernatural Mystery Quest, will launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).
To celebrate the announcement, the team has released a free Steam demo covering the entire first case, along with a new key visual that hints at the literal and figurative “inversion” of the protagonist’s world.

A Girl in Sicily: Where Daily Life Meets the Supernatural
The story shifts to the sun-drenched streets of Sicily, Italy, following Verita Retro. By day, she’s an ordinary student; by weekend, she helps her father at his retro shop. However, her peaceful life is shattered when she encounters a mysterious artifact known as a “Staff.” Verita is thrust into the dark underbelly of the “Staffer” world—a reality where supernatural phenomena are a part of life. The game’s new key art, depicting an inverted city and a falling girl, symbolizes the cracks appearing in her once-stable reality.
Gameplay: Reverse the Narrative with the ‘Retro System’
Staffer Retro evolves the series’ signature “Document Combination” mechanic. Players must:
- Investigate & Collect: Gather information through dialogue and environmental exploration.
- Synthesize Evidence: Logically link fragments of documents to expose contradictions and uncover the truth.
- The Retro System: A new core mechanic where the player’s reasoning doesn’t just change the ending, but can completely flip the atmosphere and direction of the narrative mid-stream.
Triple the Content, AAA Sound Design
Team Tetrapod is aiming for a “Triple-I” level of production with this sequel:
- 30-Hour Campaign: With 6 expansive chapters, the game is three times the length of the original Staffer Case.
- Fluid Animation: Every character, including extras, features Spine animation. With over 21 characters and 35+ poses each, the visual novel experience is more dynamic than ever.
- Aural Atmosphere: Studio EIM, the legendary sound studio behind Lies of P and Odin, is handling the soundtrack. The theme “Beautiful My Life” already showcases their ability to blend daily tranquility with creeping dread.
From Military Idea to Global Recognition
Team Tetrapod’s journey began when CEO Lee Hee-sang conceived the idea for the first game while serving in the military. Since then, the studio has become a leader in the Korean mystery genre. Their first title, Staffer Case, earned an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam and swept domestic awards like the “Indie Game of the Month.”
The studio is now aggressively targeting the global market, participating in the Tokyo Indie Game Summit and preparing a crowdfunding campaign on Japan’s CAMPFIRE platform.
