▶ A farm on the sea enjoyed without combat… A healing game focused on exploration and collection
▶ Farming, fishing, and encyclopedia collecting… A game structure focused on repetitive enjoyment
Collector’s Cove, a healing farming adventure developed and published by the German Duisburg-based four-person indie studio VoodooDuck , was officially released on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on March 12.
The game is a relaxing collection game with a cozy atmosphere where you explore a peaceful island, collect rare flora and fauna and artifacts, and complete your own encyclopedia. It excludes stimulating combat elements and is characterized by the ability to simultaneously experience the fun of exploration and a sense of accomplishment while leisurely searching for treasures amidst warm, low-poly graphics.
A healing farm on the sea without battles… The goal is to become a ‘Named Collector’
Collector’s Cove is a relaxing game that boldly excludes combat-centric progression. The core gameplay involves sailing the vast ocean to land on unknown islands, cultivating crops on a farm on deck, and catching rare fish to fill out the ‘Collector’s Compendium.’ It is characterized by a design centered on exploration, collecting, repetitive routines, and gradual growth, without the pressure of danger or survival.
The game’s most unique element is the cute sea dinosaur (Plesiosaurus) companion that tows the houseboat. Players can customize this companion, unlock various cosmetic items such as hats, and build a bond through interactions like petting or feeding. As the companion’s stamina is depleted when traveling between islands, it must rest, and maintaining its health by feeding becomes a natural part of the journey.
By catching fish and growing crops to sell or trade, you can acquire blueprints and seeds. Through this, you can build bonds with your companions and sail to new regions. Despite its simple structure, it is praised for featuring a highly polished loop that effectively designs the fun of replayability and character growth.
Pokémon Orange Islands × Stardew Valley… Favorable Reviews from Both Media and Users
Media reaction was enthusiastic immediately after release. Newsweek described it as a “relaxed farm adventure that adds a fresh twist to a familiar formula,” while PC Gamer remarked that it was “a work with an excellent balance of farming and exploration.”
Steam Deck HQ commented, “It feels like a Pokémon Orange Islands episode met Stardew Valley,” and LadiesGamers gave a positive review, saying, “It is a game with a perfect balance of discovery and record-keeping.”
On Steam, it currently holds a ‘Positive’ rating, with 87% of the 47 user reviews being positive. The community is particularly praising the bonding formed with companion dinosaurs, the pure collection and exploration structure without combat, and the houseboat customization system that allows players to decorate their own space.
A fandom steadily built since the Steam Next Fest demo
Collector’s Cove has been offering a Steam demo since before its release, and actively incorporated community feedback while upgrading the demo ahead of Steam Next Fest. In particular, it garnered a positive response from gamers by adding a feature that carries over the demo’s progress to the official release version.
It has received solid interest even before its release, with over 1,600 people adding it to their wishlists by the time of launch.
The second work created by 4 developers
VoodooDuck is a four-person indie studio based in Duisburg, Germany. Their previous work was the soft strategy game ‘Growth’. On the day of release, the development team told the community, “We were able to complete the game thanks to the gamers who have been with us for a long time,” adding, “We hope you enjoy your own cozy world.”
To celebrate the launch, the game is available at a 10% discount on Steam and Nintendo Switch for two weeks, and can be purchased for $17.99 during the sale period. Additionally, on Steam, a bundle including ‘Growth’, The Wandering Village, Flotsam, Aloft, and Tiny Book Shop is being offered at an extra 10% discount.
