From entering magic school to romance… Charcoalfish’s new series ‘Witchbrook’ draws attention

    • Supports online co-op for up to 4 players… A new title combining life simulation and social RPG
    • Jointly developed by UK’s Chucklefish and Robotality, eye-catching pixel art with a charming feel

British game developer Chucklefish and Japanese and Korean publisher Kakehashi Games have officially announced Korean language support and the official domestic release of their new game , ‘Witchbrook’ .

‘Witchbrook’, currently being co-developed with Robotality, is a magic school life game that combines life simulation and social RPG elements.

The player becomes a novice wizard who settles in the bustling seaside city of Mosport and experiences a coming-of-age story as they learn magic, make new friends, and find love and their own life.

The game is characterized by its warm and comfortable atmosphere, achieved through a charming pixel art style and a soundtrack featuring composer David Fenn.

The Life of a Rookie Wizard Starting in Mosport

The game is set in Mosport, a city where magic naturally blends into life. The protagonist, having enrolled at Witchbrook University, begins life with their familiar, ‘Fable,’ in a woods cabin left behind by their deceased aunt.

The heart of college life is a variety of magic classes. You can learn magic in diverse fields, ranging from basic alchemy such as making herbal teas, incense, and ointments, to potion making, astrology, and mystical rituals.

Once you obtain a wand, you can use magic to manipulate surrounding objects more intuitively, such as moving heavy furniture. The game progresses as you learn new spells from Professor Carlisle with every passing test, and the range of spells you can use gradually expands.

From delivery to dates… A colorful Mosport lifestyle

Various activities await even outside of class time. The villagers require a variety of goods and services that only a wizard can provide. Players can run their own businesses, take orders, and deliver items throughout the city on a moped. Once they obtain a license, they can also travel using a broomstick.

Successfully fulfilling orders and building trust with residents expands various benefits and business upgrades. At the Sunday market, you can also enjoy the game in unique ways, such as setting up a stall yourself and haggling with residents to raise tuition fees.

After class, you can enjoy a date with someone you like or freely customize your appearance. You can express your individuality by combining outfits, hairstyles, and accessories, and decorate the forest cabin and garden however you like.

It also offers the fun of customizing characters with unique outfits and hairstyles, as well as freely tending to cabins and gardens. As you build intimacy with fellow students, you can develop deep relationships and romance alongside personal stories in the style of mini-visual novels.

A city that breathes with the seasons… Supports up to 4-player co-op

Mosport was realized as a living city, going beyond a simple background.

As the seasons change, not only the city’s landscape but also the residents’ attire, schedules, and festivals transform. Day and night cycle naturally, and hundreds of citizens live their lives throughout the city, each with their own name, appearance, and residence. Another notable feature is the added realism achieved through the implementation of vehicle simulations that adhere to British traffic regulations.

The first year in the game offers approximately 40 to 50 hours of gameplay, depending on the play style. Players can enjoy the game alone, race broomsticks with friends in online co-op for up to four players, or freely explore every corner of Mosport.

‘Crunch Zero’ Development Philosophy… Multi-platform Release on PC and Console

‘Witchbrook’ was developed and published by London-based Chucklefish, with indie studio Robotality based in Hameln, Germany participating as a co-developer.

Chucklefish advocates a ‘Zero Crunch’ policy that prioritizes the health and rest of its developers. Accordingly, they have avoided excessive overtime during development and have stated that this philosophy has resulted in a somewhat longer development period for their works.

Kakehashi Games is participating as the publisher in the Japan and Korea regions. In particular, with the confirmation of Korean language support, domestic users are expected to be able to enjoy ‘Witchbrook’ in a localized language.

‘Witchbrook’ is scheduled to be released on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox platforms, and the official release date will be announced later.
