Epic Games Store Third-Party Revenue Jumps 57% as Developer-First Policies Pay Off

    By Editorial Team2026년 02월 04일Updated:2026년 02월 05일3 Mins Read
    • Record Growth: Third-party PC game spending hit an all-time high of $400 million, a 57% increase year-over-year.
    • The “$1M Rule”: Growth was driven by the June 2025 policy allowing developers to keep 100% of their first $1 million in annual revenue.
    • Halo Effect: Free game giveaways on Epic led to a surprising 40% increase in players on Steam for the same titles.
    • 2026 Roadmap: A complete launcher overhaul and new social features (voice chat and parties) are coming in Q2 2026.

Epic Games has released its “2025 Year in Review,” reporting a banner year for its digital storefront. By doubling down on developer-friendly revenue splits and aggressive player rewards, the Epic Games Store (EGS) has achieved record-breaking engagement metrics despite a challenging global economic climate for the gaming industry.

A Breakthrough Year for Third-Party Developers

While the storefront has historically been dominated by Epic’s own titles like Fortnite, 2025 marked a significant shift toward third-party success. Total spending on PC games from external partners reached $400 million (approx. 580 billion KRW).

    • PC Monthly Active Users (MAU): Reached a record 78 million in December 2025.
    • Total Player Spending: Hit $1.16 billion, a 6% increase from 2024.
    • Epic Web Shops: Launched in late 2025, these allow developers to build cross-platform storefronts on PC and mobile while bypassing high commission fees from other mobile giants.

    The “Developer-First” Edge

The most impactful driver of this growth was the refined revenue-sharing model introduced in June 2025. Under this policy, developers keep 100% of the net revenue for the first $1 million earned per product each year. After this threshold, the split reverts to Epic’s standard 88/12, which still remains significantly more favorable than the industry-standard 70/30 split found on other major platforms.

2026 Roadmap: Fixing the “Sucky” Launcher

Looking ahead, Epic Games Store boss Steve Allison acknowledged that the launcher’s current architecture “sucks” in terms of performance and speed. To address this, Epic is planning a “gut-to-shell” rebuild.

    • Summer 2026: Launch of the new architecture, promising faster load times, better stability, and a more responsive UI.
    • Q2 2026 (May): Introduction of Community Spaces, Voice Chat, and Game-Independent Parties, allowing friends to communicate across the Epic ecosystem regardless of what they are playing.
    • Fall 2026: Rollout of a Cross-Platform Library that syncs games between PC and mobile, alongside regional storefronts for better localized discovery.
    • Global Expansion: The mobile store will launch in Japan (March) and Brazil (June)
