Monster Train 2 Surpasses 500K Sales as First Major DLC, ‘Destiny of the Railforged,’ Officially Launches

    By Editorial Team2026년 02월 02일Updated:2026년 02월 03일3 Mins Read
    • Strategic Milestone: The acclaimed deckbuilder sequel hits 500,000 copies sold in just eight months.
    • Dual Content Drop: A massive paid expansion, Destiny of the Railforged, arrives alongside a free update featuring the fan-favorite Wurmkin Clan.
    • Soul Savior Mode: A high-stakes new game mode introduces non-linear boss battles and “Soul” card upgrades.

Global indie publisher Devolver Digital (via Big Fan Publishing) and developer Shiny Shoe have officially released the first major paid DLC for Monster Train 2, titled ‘Destiny of the Railforged’.

Since its launch, Monster Train 2 has maintained its status as a genre heavyweight, boasting an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating from over 95% of Steam users. With today’s release, the game shuffles in its most significant content update yet, introducing a brand-new playable clan and a transformative game mode that shifts the traditional roguelike structure.

A New Trial: The ‘Soul Savior’ Mode

The centerpiece of the DLC is the Soul Savior mode, which pits players against the Mother of Life and her twisted brood. This mode reimagines the game’s core progression:

    • Non-Linear Boss Fights: For the first time, players have the freedom to choose the order in which they face the new bosses.
    • Risk and Reward: Defeating bosses grants immense power but also inflicts cumulative curses, forcing players to balance their greed with survival.
    • Soul Augmentation: Players can collect Souls from fallen enemies and equip them directly to cards in their deck. These “Souls” grant diverse, game-breaking effects that allow for unprecedented synergy and meta-progression.
    • Cosmic Enemies: A host of new “Cosmic” themed enemies join the fray, requiring fresh tactics to overcome.

The Masters of the Track: The Railforged Clan

In a lore-rich expansion, players can finally command the Railforged Clan (선로의 후손)—the legendary engineers who built the very train and tracks featured throughout the series. This clan introduces two powerful new Champions:

    1. Herzal: The master blacksmith and leader of the clan. He is the architect behind the original tracks and the iconic Boneshaker train.
    2. Heph: A hammer-wielding force of nature and the creator of the Covenant’s Outpost and the Skullcrusher engine.

The Railforged bring unique “Forge” mechanics to the table, allowing players to build and upgrade units mid-battle, further deepening the tactical layers of the three-tiered battlefield.

Free Gift for Fans: Return of the Wurmkin

As a “thank you” to the community, Shiny Shoe has also released a completely free content update today that brings back the Wurmkin Clan from the original Monster Train.

However, this isn’t a simple port; the Wurmkin have been comprehensively refined to fit the updated systems of the sequel. Their signature “Charged Echoes” and powerful area-of-effect spells offer veteran players a nostalgic yet fresh strategic experience without requiring a DLC purchase.
