- Retro Roots: Developed by Asteristic Game Studio, co-developers of the acclaimed Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider.
- The “Treasure” Influence: Heavily inspired by 16-bit classics like Mega Man, Alien Soldier, and Mischief Makers.
- Unique Mechanic: A detachable mechanical arm that lets you grab, throw, and manipulate almost anything in the environment.
Asteristic Game Studio has officially released the first gameplay trailer for ‘DekaDuck’, a hand-drawn 2D action platformer that looks like a lost masterpiece from the Sega Saturn era. Featuring fluid animation and momentum-based combat, the game aims to modernize the “run-and-gun” genre with a quirky, avian twist.
Grab Everything: The Detachable Arm
The core of DekaDuck is the protagonist’s robotic arm. As a bounty hunter who is literally half-duck and half-machine, Dekaduck uses his detachable hand to interact with the world in ways a standard shooter cannot.
- Enemy Manipulation: Grab a bat to use as a boomerang, or hitch a ride on a spring-shaped enemy to reach high platforms.
- Improvisational Combat: You aren’t just shooting; you’re using the environment. Every enemy has a unique behavior when grabbed and thrown, turning every encounter into a mini-puzzle.
- Momentum is Key: The game rewards “flow.” By combining dashes, jumps, and the “Super Dash” ability, players are encouraged to maintain forward momentum rather than stopping to pick off enemies one by one.
Hand-Drawn Sci-Fi Aesthetics
The visual identity of the game comes from artist Glauco Silva, who has crafted six distinct worlds—from mechanical forests to neon-drenched cyberpunk cities. Every frame is digitally hand-drawn, resulting in the kind of expressive, “squash-and-stretch” animation rarely seen in modern platformers.
The Story: After crashing on an uncharted planet, the genius Dr. Less merges his own brilliant mind with his daughter’s pet duck to create the ultimate bounty hunter. Now, Dekaduck must navigate a galaxy full of conspiracies while dodging the Intergalactic Police—specifically Captain Aiko, who happens to have a massive crush on our robotic hero.
