    KOCCA Launches Educational Content to Enhance Game Accessibility for People with Disabilities

    The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), in partnership with the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities (KEAD), has officially released a specialized educational series focused on Game Accessibility. This initiative, available on the online learning platform EDUKOCCA, aims to foster a “Barrier-free” culture within the rapidly growing game industry and realize essential ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) values.

    Bridging the Gap: 6 New Episodes on Game Accessibility

    Following a 2021 MOU between KOCCA and KEAD, the two organizations have worked steadily to improve awareness of disabilities in the creative sectors. This year’s curriculum specifically targets the gaming industry through six detailed episodes:

    • Current Status of Game Accessibility: An overview of how inclusive the global and domestic markets are today.
    • Representative Case Studies: Analyzing successful examples of games that have implemented high-level accessibility features.
    • Design Strategies for Accessibility: Practical guidelines for developers on how to design games that can be enjoyed by players with various disabilities.

    These courses are designed to help developers—especially indie studios with limited resources—understand that “Barrier-free” design is not just a moral choice but a way to expand their potential player base.


    Expanding “Barrier-free” to Existing Content

    KOCCA’s commitment to inclusivity goes beyond new courses. The agency has also produced sign language subtitles for several of its most popular existing programs on EDUKOCCA, including:

    • Understanding Indie Games
    • AI Services and Content Creation
    • A Guide to Producing Solo-creator Content

    This ensures that aspiring creators with hearing impairments can access high-quality vocational training in the content industry.


    What is EDUKOCCA?

    Under the slogan “K-Content for Everyone,” EDUKOCCA is a comprehensive online learning portal offering over 700 free courses across various fields, including broadcasting, gaming, performing arts, and webtoons.

    • For Beginners: Career exploration and basic job training.
    • For Professionals: Advanced courses for skill enhancement.
    • Impact: The platform currently serves over 30,000 users annually, providing a vital bridge into the professional content world.

    “We hope this new educational content serves as a catalyst for raising awareness of barrier-free design within the industry,” stated Yoo Yoon-ok, Head of the Content Infrastructure Division at KOCCA. “We will continue to work toward realizing ESG values within the content ecosystem.”
