In an industry often defined by “pay-to-win” mechanics, a new South Korean indie studio is attempting a radical experiment. Sanctuary Games has officially pulled back the curtain on its debut title, Zanerdin: The Unbound. By stripping away the credit card requirements and focusing on strategic depth, the studio aims to prove that the thrill of the “pull” belongs in the hands of players, not just their wallets.
A World Divided by Elements
The story takes place on the continent of Kalatos, a land governed by six elemental “Blessings”: Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, Wind, and Electricity. In this society, the element you are born with determines your power, your job, and your destiny.
However, the protagonist, Zanerdin, hails from the “Chaos Region”—a place where children are born without any elemental blessing at all. Treated as outcasts in a world built on elemental hierarchy, Zanerdin must embark on a journey to uncover the truth behind his family’s past and the secrets of the world’s foundation. The narrative is brought to life through hand-drawn, anime-style cutscenes.
Gameplay: Strategy Over Spending
Despite the “Gacha” label, every resource in Zanerdin: The Unbound is collected via 60 turn-based stages, boss raids, and hidden challenges. Success isn’t determined by how much you spend, but by how well you build your team.

The Studio: A New Player in the K-Indie Scene
Based in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do, Sanctuary Games was founded in April 2025. Leveraging the corporate experience of its founder, the studio is focusing on “player-centric world-building.” Beyond the game, Sanctuary Games plans to expand the Zanerdin IP into web novels and merchandise, signaling long-term ambitions for the franchise.
Release Outlook
Currently in the Pre-Alpha stage, Zanerdin: The Unbound is a long-term project. While a 2026 release is unlikely—with most estimates pointing toward 2027 or later—the studio is already inviting players to join the conversation through their official Discord and by wishlisting the game on Steam.
