K-Indie Games Take the Spotlight at Taipei Indie Game Awards 2026

    By Editorial Team2025년 12월 30일Updated:2026년 03월 15일3 Mins Read

Korean indie game developers have once again proven their global competitiveness at the Taipei Indie Game Awards (IGA) 2026. Out of 515 entries from 51 countries, two standout Korean titles have been named finalists, raising the profile of South Korean creativity at Asia’s largest indie game competition.

Concorde Development’s ‘Greytail’ Nominated in Three Categories

Graytail, developed by the Korean indie studio Concode, has emerged as a major contender, securing nominations in three categories, including Best Visual Art and Best Mobile Game.

Graytail is a Zelda-inspired action-adventure set on a small Pacific island. The story follows a detective and the daughter of a legendary female pilot who went missing, as they track clues through a forest infested with mutants.

The game’s standout feature is its high-level interaction system. Players can manipulate their environment in creative ways—such as lighting a box on fire to burn through grass or using flaming arrows to trigger explosive chain reactions. Despite its pixel-art style, the game boasts sophisticated visual effects like cloud shadows on beaches and sunlight filtering through leaves, all powered by the Unity engine.

While originally slated for a Q2 2025 release, Concode has decided to extend development by another year to ensure a polished, full version rather than an Early Access release.

Via Studios’ “Hermit Computer” Nominated for Best Student Game

Hermit Computer, developed by VIA Studio (Visual Interactive Art), has been named a finalist for the Best Student Game category.

Set in the year 2001, this horror-puzzle game takes place deep within the “Hermit Kingdom.” Players take on the role of an American agent captured while gathering intelligence. Trapped in a high-security facility, the player’s only tool for survival and information gathering is a restricted national computer operating system.

The game offers a tense, immersive experience where players must navigate a dystopian OS to uncover state secrets while avoiding the “ears” of the regime. It successfully blends adventure, simulation, and interactive fiction with a grim, Cold War-era atmosphere.

The Global Rise of K-Indie Games

The success of Graytail and Hermit Computer at Taipei IGA 2026 reflects the continued growth and diversity of the Korean indie scene. Following the global success of titles like Dungreed and Skul, Korean developers are now being recognized for their innovation across various genres—from pixel-art adventures to immersive political thrillers.

The Taipei Indie Game Awards, which began in 2015, will announce its winners across eight categories (including Best Narrative, Best Design, and the Grand Prix) on January 28, 2026.

The nominated works will be showcased at the Taipei Game Show 2026, held from January 29 to February 1 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1. Winners will receive free exhibition space and promotional support to further their reach in the international market.
