NEOWIZ, the publisher behind global indie hits like Skul: The Hero Slayer and Sanabi, has announced a major update to the official website for its narrative-focused indie game competition, “NEOWIZ Indie Quest.” With the submission deadline set for January 16, 2026, the company is making a final push to discover the next generation of storytelling talent in the gaming world.

A Focus on Storytelling and Creator Freedom
The NEOWIZ Indie Quest is designed to shine a spotlight on games that feature compelling world-building, deep narratives, and rich character development. Unlike many corporate-sponsored contests, this initiative is notable for its “no-strings-attached” approach:
- Prize Pool: A total of 165 million KRW (approx. $127,000 USD) will be awarded to 10 selected teams.
- No Mandatory Publishing: Finalists can focus purely on development without being forced into a publishing contract, allowing creators to maintain their independence.
- Growth Support: Beyond the cash prize, winners will receive PR support, professional mentoring, and strategic consulting from NEOWIZ’s veteran team.
Website Redesign to Streamline Global Entries
As the nine-month-long search enters its final two weeks, NEOWIZ has revamped the contest’s website to better serve international participants from Korea, the US, China, and beyond. The new site features enhanced guidelines and a dedicated “NEOWIZ Indie Games” section, showcasing the company’s existing portfolio to inspire potential applicants.
Expanding the Global Narrative Ecosystem
NEOWIZ has been aggressive in its search for narrative excellence throughout 2025. In collaboration with the indie community platform Game Jolt, they recently hosted the “Narrative Game Jam” from October 31 to November 10. The winners of that event demonstrated the high bar NEOWIZ sets for storytelling:
- 1st Place: The Bunker
- 2nd Place: Duat Forgotten Souls
- 3rd Place: Luna Magica
What NEOWIZ Looks For
A representative from NEOWIZ stated, “When we look for new projects, we evaluate them based on a solid IP, a clear identity, and the potential to build a dedicated fanbase. Through NEOWIZ Indie Quest, we hope to meet even more global creators who are pushing the boundaries of what a game narrative can be.”
With successful titles like Sanabi proving that story-driven indie games can achieve massive commercial and critical success, the industry is closely watching to see which projects will emerge from this final “Indie Quest.”
