Smilegate Future Lab and Naver Webtoon’s Special Partnership Expands Creative Horizons

Smilegate Future Lab (CEO Kwon Hyuk-bin) announced on the 27th that it had successfully concluded the Naver Webtoon IP-utilizing game jam, ‘Beaver Jam with Naver Webtoon’, held at Smilegate Campus for 2 nights and 3 days from the 24th to the 26th, and selected 10 excellent works.
“Beaver Jam with Naver Webtoon” is a game jam where creators can intensively develop game prototypes in short periods of time, utilizing popular Naver Webtoon IP. This event was made possible through a special partnership between Smilegate Future Lab and Naver Webtoon.
A total of 75 indie game creators, including planners, programmers, and designers, participated in this game jam. Participants reinterpreted and expanded upon popular webtoon IPs like “Sound of Your Heart,” “Zombie Daughter,” and “Shy Tiger Coco,” creating demo games.
Beaver Jam participants shared their interpretations of their plans through team-building on the first day, and began full-scale game production on the second day. Notably, experts from Unity Korea, a sponsor of the Beaver Rocks Festival, served as mentors for this game jam, providing development expertise and technical consulting, working alongside the creators to enhance the game’s quality.
On the final day, participants exhibited and demonstrated their own creations, and 10 excellent works were selected through on-site evaluation by the judges. “Iron King’s Chicken” and “Isekai Tide,” which utilize the Sound of Your Heart IP, as well as “Zombie Run,” “Zombie You, Kidnapped,” and “Zombie? No, Human Maker!”, which reinterpret the Zombie Daughter IP, garnered attention. In particular, five games utilizing the timid tiger Coco IP attracted attention and received high praise from the judges.
The winning teams were awarded prizes. The winning games will be exhibited at the Naver Webtoon Special Exhibition at the “Beaver Rocks 2025,” an indie game and culture festival held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul from December 5th to 7th.
Smilegate Future Lab Team Leader Hwang Ju-hoon said, “We saw a passionate and meaningful scene where creators expanded the limits of their imagination, varied, and reinterpreted representative IPs of Naver Webtoon,” and “We are very excited to see the unique games born from Beaver Jam meet the visitors at ‘Beaver Rocks 2025’ in December.”
