Bungie & Crytek’s Sci-Fi RPG ‘Angelic: Dark Symphony’ Unveiled

    By Editorial Team2026년 08월 06일7 Mins Read
    • The debut title of Angelicore Game Studios, founded by former Bungie and Crytek employees
    • The ‘Angel’ Returns After 200 Years and the Fate of Humanity… Dark Sci-Fi Worldview Draws Attention
    • Preparing for Early Access after Open Alpha ends… Recruiting Steam and Epic Wishlists

Independent developer Angelicore Game Studios unveiled a new dark sci-fi RPG title , ‘Angelic: Dark Symphony,’ on the 5th (local time).

‘Angelic: Dark Symphony’ is a cinematic sci-fi RPG that tells the story of the ‘Angels,’ a new humanity created by mankind, returning to Earth after 200 years.

The game features three-dimensional storytelling unfolded from the perspectives of colorful heroes and strategic turn-based combat utilizing unique skills.

In addition, it is expected to boast a dark and magnificent atmosphere, combining realistic 3D graphics based on Unreal Engine, cinematic direction that feels like watching a movie, and a dystopian worldview that captures the fall of humanity and reverence for divine beings.

The development team consists of veterans who held key roles at Bungie, Crytek, and Ceidot Game Studios. The game is currently being developed for PC and is accepting wishlist registrations on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Early access is also scheduled ahead of the official release.

Man-made ‘Angel’ Returns After 200 Years

The game’s worldview begins as humanity hurries to colonize space. Judging that there is no time to wait for evolution, humanity created an immortal new breed that transcended the limitations of the physical body, and people called them ‘Angels’.

However, when it was revealed that the new humanity surpassed humans in almost every respect, those in power began to oppress and exploit them, eventually leading to a large-scale civil war known as the ‘Interhuman Wars’.

The victorious angels left humanity and disappeared into deep space, and now, 200 years later, they are returning. The problem is that an unidentified darkness is also returning with them.

The setting of the first campaign is Dreadheaven, a colony of the New Humans formerly known as “The Heaven.” Dispatched to investigate this place after contact was suddenly cut off, heroes encounter horrific events and, in the process, confront fundamental questions about their own existence, faith, evolution, morality, and reality.

A cinematic narrative completed by multiple heroes together

‘Angelic: Dark Symphony’ departs from the conventional structure where a single protagonist leads the narrative, adopting a method where the perspectives of heroes with diverse goals and conflicts intersect. This multi-dimensional storytelling, in which the gazes of various heroes converge to complete one grand narrative, is considered the game’s core differentiating factor.

The combat system also reflects this multi-viewpoint configuration. Players engage in turn-based tactical combat while directly controlling heroes with different combat styles, unique abilities, and exclusive animations.

The developer explains that, in particular, the game simultaneously delivers strategic depth and satisfying action by creating powerful strategic synergies through the combination of heroes’ signature abilities, tactics utilizing terrain and environmental elements, and spectacular execution sequences.

‘Chaos Theater,’ a wealth of free multiplayer content designed to make up for the shortcomings of the single-player mode, also catches the eye. Players can freely experiment with their own hero combinations and tactical synergies against powerful AI or users from around the world.

It is characterized by supporting various battlefields tailored to user preferences, such as cooperation, PvP, and free combat, and the developer announced plans to expand the multiplayer ecosystem through continuous patches and updates in the future.

The developer announced that the game will be released as a paid package and will not include in-app purchases or loot boxes.

A realistic sci-fi world realized with Unreal Engine

The game is built on the Unreal Engine and, as can be seen from the Steam tags, aims to be a third-person RPG featuring realistic graphics and cinematic direction. It is characterized by a dark atmosphere that captures both the desolation of cosmic ruins and the overwhelming intimidation of divine beings, all set against a vast worldview.

The released teaser was also created using an actual game engine, boasting a high level of completeness in character expressions, movements, and lighting effects.

The sound supports both English audio and subtitles, and details regarding the music and sound design will be released later. However, the developers explained that the currently released videos and screenshots were taken from an early development build and are subject to change in the official version.

Veterans who created a game enjoyed by over 100 million people worldwide

Angelicore Game Studio is an international indie studio that develops character-driven cinematic sci-fi RPGs.

The core development team leading the studio held senior-level positions at Crytek, Bungie, and Saydot Game Studios, and the works they participated in are known to have accumulated over 100 million players worldwide.

Founder and game director Erkan Bayol explained, “‘Angelic’ started with the question, ‘What choice would humanity make if they had to adapt to the space environment faster than evolution?’ The answer was the new humanity, the ‘Angels,’ but as they became beings superior to humans, those in power began to oppress them, and conflict became an unavoidable fate.”

Attracting attention from overseas media immediately after reveal… The developers’ names alone are enough to generate buzz.

After the game was revealed, overseas gaming media outlets such as GBAtemp, RPGamer, and Turn Based Lovers reported on the news within a day, noting that it is a cinematic turn-based sci-fi RPG being produced by a development team formerly from Bungie and Crytek.

Currently, 12 curator reviews have been registered on the Steam page, and the newly revamped Steam page and teaser video are being actively introduced through official social media.

According to the developer, the open alpha season, which ran for several months, recently concluded, and they are currently preparing for early access to the story-driven content ‘Dark Symphony’. As user feedback on the combat system has been consistently collected through playtests, it appears that full-scale evaluations will follow once early access begins.

Meanwhile, the game is listed on the Steam page as adult content containing strong language, violence, gore, and rare instances of nudity and sexually suggestive content.

As such, ‘Angelic: Dark Symphony’ heralds the birth of a well-made RPG that combines the technical prowess of proven veterans with a grand sci-fi narrative and deep strategic depth.

With the official launch of Early Access approaching, the first step toward future success is expected to be how attractively the teaser released this time conveys the game’s unique dystopian sensibility and the distinctive theme of ‘angels’ to users.
