K-Indie Sci-Fi Strategy ‘Grid War’ Draws Attention for Unique Combination of Tower Defense and Aerial Combat

    By Editorial Team2026년 10월 07일4 Mins Read
    • K-Indie Studio Keke Studio Releases New Game Combining Tower Defense and Aerial Combat
    • Survivor-style aerial combat mode attracting attention for controlling an aircraft carrier and fighting over a real city
    • Supports ad-free offline play… Released on Steam on October 15 following the Android launch

GRID DEFENSE: GRID WAR, a sci-fi strategy game developed by the Korean indie studio Keke Studio, will be released on Steam on October 15.

The game combines tower defense elements against an AI robot army with a survivor-style aerial combat mode where you control an aircraft carrier, and offers an offline play environment without ads or an internet connection, as well as a campaign with 100 free scenarios.

A defensive line built by 22 types of towers and 6 heroes

The game features 22 types of towers with distinct roles, including bombardment, cooling, electricity, lasers, and anti-aircraft fire. The core strategy involves blocking enemy entry points, reinforcing vulnerable paths, and concentrating firepower. The developers explained that since ground and air forces attack in different ways, not only the types of towers but also their placement are key to strategy.

The six heroes also possess distinct abilities. Vanguard performs mobile fire on the front lines, while Longview handles long-range precision fire. Bulwark is responsible for area-of-effect bombardment, and Mender repairs damaged buildings. Tinker reinforces nearby towers, and Skyward attacks both ground and air enemies.

You can also use 26 types of support cards, including airstrikes, missile bombardments, EMPs, and nuclear attacks. Among these, four are robot unit cards. Whether to use cards to defend against current attacks or to save them for future threats acts as a variable in the battle.

100 scenarios are free, the rest are in premium mode

The scenario campaign consists of 10 chapters and 100 stages, all of which are free. The developers stated that there is no need to purchase paid modes to progress through subsequent chapters.

There are three paid modes. Basic features 10 tower defense maps, World is a battlefield set in the outskirts of 15 real cities, and Grid Command is an aerial combat mode set in the skies above 25 cities. According to the Google Play description, all three modes can be used with a one-time purchase without a subscription.

In World Mode, 20 giant bosses charge toward the tower defense line. The Steam page announces that you can experience a one-minute highlight reel before purchasing, limited to Basic and Grid Command modes.

Grid Command, Soaring Over the City on an Aircraft Carrier

Grid Command is a survivor-style combat mode where you lead an air fleet on a city map. Players move around fighting swarms of enemies and expand their fleet as the battle progresses.

According to the Google Play description, there are a total of 25 cities where you can control an aircraft carrier. The mobile version is controlled using a fixed stick and buttons for building, ultimate, boost, and attack.

There are also elements where helicopters drop ground towers onto the battlefield, and rescued heroes hang onto an aircraft carrier to fight alongside them. Battles also unfold where you observe the attack range of enemy missiles and evade them using boosts. This information is based on the Android version 1.1.0 update.

Scope of Generative AI Applications and Supported Languages

The game developer and publisher is Keke Studio. According to the Google Play developer information, Ten Miles Co., Ltd., located in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, is listed as the operator. Keke Studio has also released games such as a K-pop themed jigsaw puzzle game.

According to the AI-generated content guide on the Steam page, generative AI tools were used during development to create some artwork, character and environment assets, cinematic videos, music, sound effects, voice recordings, text, localization, and store promotional materials.

The developer stated that they created the assets in advance and included them in the game, and that they do not generate AI content or connect to external generative AI services during gameplay.

The game supports interfaces in 12 languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

‘Grid Defense: Grid War’ is a game that combines tower defense and aircraft carrier aerial combat in a free scenario campaign. The Android version is available on Google Play, and the Steam version is scheduled for release on October 15, 2026.
