Taipei Indie Game Awards 2026 Hits Record Scale with 515 Entries Worldwide

    By 인디게임닷컴 편집부2025년 12월 30일3 Mins Read

    By IndieGame.com Editorial Team | December 30, 2025

The Indie Game Award (IGA), the prestigious international competition hosted by the Taipei Game Show, has reached a historic milestone. The 2026 edition has officially become the largest in the event’s history, reflecting the explosive growth and diversifying landscape of the global indie game industry.

A Global Phenomenon: 1.5x Growth in Submissions

This year, the IGA received a total of 515 entries from 51 countries, marking a 1.5-fold increase compared to the previous year. The competition’s reach has expanded into new territories, with developers from Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, Slovenia, and Kyrgyzstan participating for the first time.

Peer Review: A Unique Judging Philosophy

The IGA distinguishes itself through a “Peer Review” preliminary round. Participating developers evaluate each other’s work, fostering a global exchange of creative ideas and design philosophies that transcends geographical boundaries.

The final round is then handled by an elite jury of industry experts, specialized media, past IGA winners, and prominent content creators. They evaluate finalists based on narrative, audio, art, gameplay design, and innovation to select winners in eight categories, including the coveted Grand Prix (Game of the Year).

    38 Finalists from 16 Countries

From the massive pool of entries, 38 teams from 16 countries—including Taiwan, Korea, Germany, the USA, France, and Brazil—have moved on to the final round.

    Korean Standouts: K-Indie’s Triple Threat

South Korean developers have made a significant impact this year:

    • Graytail (Concode): A frontrunner with nominations in three categories, including Best Visual Art and Best Mobile Game. Its sophisticated pixel art and deep environmental interactions have made it a critical favorite.
    • Hermit Computer (VIA Studio): Nominated for Best Student Game, this title has been praised for its immersive, dystopian atmosphere and unique “OS-based” puzzle mechanics.

    International and Local Highlights

    • The King Is Watching (Serbia): A unique strategy-roguelike that challenges players to build a kingdom within a restricted 4×4 grid, simulating the limited field of vision of a king.
    • Always With You (Taiwan): One of the few local titles developed using Unreal Engine 5. This heartwarming puzzle-adventure follows a girl named Mia and her cat, and is a strong contender for Best Audio.
    • Other notable Taiwanese finalists include YARETA, Aeruta, Back of Beyond, and Froggo’s Adventure: Drifting Sky.

    The Road to the Ceremony

The winners of the Indie Game Award 2026 will be officially announced on January 28, 2026.

All winning titles will be featured in a dedicated exhibition zone at the Taipei Game Show 2026 (January 29 – February 1) at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. Winners receive free exhibition space, promotional support, and cash prizes for the Grand Prix winner.

As the premier stage for indie games in Asia, the IGA continues to serve as a vital gateway for local and international developers to enter the Chinese-speaking market and reach a global audience.
