Minister of Culture “Game is not a disease, it is a cultural, policy support promise”

    By Editorial Team2022년 07월 01일Updated:2022년 08월 30일3 Mins Read

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Bo-gyun held a meeting with the game industry at 2 pm on July 1 (Fri) at the Korea Game Industry Association to hear opinions from the field and to discuss regulatory innovation and future development plans for the sustainable growth of the game industry. did.

Minister Park said, “Games are culture. The visuals of the game are excellent, the music is light and majestic, and the story (storytelling) stimulates the public’s sensibility. We will provide policy support so that that instinct can be realized alive.”

In particular, he emphasized, “Games account for 70% of K-content exports, demonstrating that Korea is a country with attractive content.”

At this meeting, Minister Park listened to difficulties in the game industry and exchanged opinions on ways to revitalize the industry, such as regulatory innovation. The game industry presented various opinions for recovering industrial competitiveness and taking another leap forward.

Industry officials, including Chairman Kang Shin-cheol of the Korea Game Industry Association, requested active responses to the issuance of game use disorder disease codes and Chinese version numbers, permission of peer-to-peer (P2E) games, rational operation of the 52-hour week, human resource development and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Minister Park emphasized that the game use disorder disease code is “a problem with the pride of games” and said that he would take the lead in promoting the game’s aspects so that the industry would not be hurt. Regarding the expansion of issuance of the Chinese version, he said, “We will push ahead with the policy priority by realistically delivering the voices of the game industry through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy.”

He said that a comprehensive approach is necessary for P2E games, as there are two sides: new technology and meandering. The 52-hour workweek system requires an extension of the flexible working system, but there are concerns about ‘Pangyo’s Lighthouse’ and ‘Crunch Mode’, so the game industry ordered a preemptive response. He said that he would consider policy support measures to solve the difficulties of SMEs and foster talented people.

Lastly, they will try to solve the regulations in a leading and offensive manner, and ask that the voices of the field be delivered promptly.

At the meeting, Chairman Kang Shin-cheol of the Korea Game Industry Association; CEO Lee Jung-heon, Netmarble CEO Do Ki-wook, Smilegate Entertainment CEO Sung Jun-ho, Wemade CEO Jang Hyun-guk, Webzen CEO Kim Tae-young, Kakao Games CEO Jo Gye-hyun, Com2us Holdings CEO Lee Yong-guk, Krafton CEO Kim Chang-han, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young, NHN Bigfoot CEO Kim Sang-ho, NC (NC)Soft Managing Director Yonggyun Ahn, etc.
    16 people attended.

Minister Park has consistently emphasized the importance of the field and consumers in the policy implementation process. Following the meeting with the tourism industry on Wednesday, June 22, we met the game industry today, and we plan to expand on-site meetings by field in the future.
