A Korean Occult Horror Experience Comes to PC via STOVE
Smilegate announced the official launch of “Alleyway: Gwihun”, a Korean-style horror adventure game developed by AIXLAB, on October 29 (Wednesday).

The title marks Smilegate’s latest effort to create a globally recognized Korean horror franchise, blending cultural atmosphere with psychological tension. AIXLAB, known for its work in VR, AR, and XR content, ventures into PC horror gaming for the first time through this collaboration.
From Government-Backed Project to Full Global Launch
During its early development phase, Alleyway: Gwihun was selected for the KOCCA 2025 Game Content Production Support Program, earning recognition for its potential. AIXLAB, previously acclaimed for “Haunted House VR” and “Forbidden Art VR,” later signed a global publishing agreement with Smilegate.
Storyline and Gameplay: When Familiar Streets Turn to Fear
The game follows Soyeon, a young woman trapped in a maze of alleyways late at night. Players must navigate eerie environments haunted by “Gwihun,” supernatural echoes of the dead, and “Heokkaebi,” bizarre distortions of reality.
Using her smartphone camera and bracelet device, Soyeon investigates clues to distinguish illusion from truth — turning everyday urban landscapes into chilling, tension-filled spaces inspired by Korean urban legends and occult folklore.
Strong Pre-Launch Reception and Enhanced Final Build
Since its demo debut and showcase at Busan Indie Connect Festival (BIC) 2025, the game has drawn significant attention. Related gameplay videos have surpassed 2 million YouTube views, while closed Focus Group Tests (FGTs) praised its immersive realism:
“I thought it would be mildly scary — it’s terrifying.”
“It perfectly captures the dread of Korean back alleys.”
Smilegate and AIXLAB incorporated player feedback, improving visual effects, performance optimization, and overall polish ahead of release.
