Cassel Games, the ‘Ratropolis’ developer, started Tumblebuck crowdfunding for the new sandbox game ‘Ratopia.’
‘Ratopia’ is a sandbox game in which citizens’ personal capital and consequent labor and consumption activities are realized. Citizens must find jobs and economic activities that suit them, adjust their behavior, and create a sustainable economic structure. If this is not the case, you can experience realistic economic factors that cause the city’s economy to collapse, such as suffering from the poor in the city.
As the ruler of the rats, you must directly pay wages and jobs to the citizens, set the rules, and protect them from starvation and predator attacks. The various actions gamers can perform, such as ordering work, collecting taxes, and commanding battles, are characterized by a high level of immersion.
Hwang Seong-jin, the team leader who developed the game, said, “As many economic problems are emerging in modern society, I wanted to make a game that solves various economic phenomena by injecting them into ‘Ratopia.’ In ‘Latopia,’ each gamer had a different process of interpreting and solving problems, and I saw many creative ways. If many gamers suggest interesting economic ideas, I want to incorporate them actively.”
The game is being developed to be released on Steam Early Access in November 2023. A demo version is currently available to experience the game, and more details can be found on the Tumblbug site and the Cassel Games homepage.
