Solo-developed gladiator fighting game ‘Gladio Mori’ to be released on September 16

    By Editorial Team2026년 08월 25일4 Mins Read
    • Finnish one-person developer Plebeian Studio officially launches after 2 years of Early Access
    • From dismemberment and bleeding to user-created skills, a unique fighting system catches the eye.

Gladio Mori, a physics-based gladiator fighting game developed by Plebeian Studio, a one-person development studio based in Oulu, Finland, will conclude Steam Early Access and be officially released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on September 16, 2026.

‘Gladio Mori’ is a game that features a unique combat system based on a physics engine and a ‘Move Editor’ that allows players to design their own attack movements as its core fun.

It is garnering anticipation from hardcore action gamers as it features raw, intense depictions of violence and bodily mutilation amidst its stylishly rendered graphics.

The outcome is decided by bleeding per organ, not by the health bar.

‘Gladio Mori’ is characterized by a system where damage taken is reflected in the body in real-time, without a health bar. Players will die from continuous bleeding if fatal injuries, such as artery rupture or limb amputation, occur. It is characterized by maximizing the tension of combat through a sophisticated damage mechanism.

Losing an arm makes combat that much more difficult, and a precise strike to a vital spot can end the match with a single blow. Since weapons, armor, and the body are all affected by the physics engine, simply increasing the number of attacks does not guarantee victory.

In particular, since plate armor effectively blocks slashing attacks, a strategy of finding and attacking gaps in the armor is important.

There are no fixed techniques; fighting animations designed by the player

The most notable system is the ‘Move Editor’. Unlike typical fighting games that use a fixed list of moves, players can directly manipulate the character’s body to create attack animations from scratch and develop them into moves that can be used in actual combat.

You can study efficient attack movements, recreate action scenes from movies, or create movements that are completely useless in reality to test how they work in actual combat.

Players or console users who do not wish to create their own animations can utilize the community-created Moveset Gallery. You can build your own combat style by selecting and combining techniques created by other players, and online battles with up to four players are also supported.

A unique attempt by a one-person studio from Oulu, Finland

Plebeian Studio is a one-person game development studio based in Oulu, northern Finland. ‘Gladio Mori’ is the studio’s first work, and despite the scale of a one-person development, it stands out for establishing a unique system that combines physics-based combat with user-generated content.

Bonus Stage Publishing and China’s Korgi Digital are also listed as publishers on the Steam store page. However, no separate official materials have been confirmed regarding the specific roles or cooperative relationships of each publisher, so further verification is required for details.

Approximately two years of early access, consistent positive reviews

‘Gladio Mori’ was released on Steam Early Access on November 26, 2024. At the time, it featured major systems including a move editor, a community moveset gallery, user-created skins, an organ-based damage system, 17 weapon sets, 10 armor elements, and 2 arenas.

Currently on Steam, it maintains a ‘Very Positive’ rating, with 81% of the 997 total reviews being positive. Among the 75 reviews registered in the last 30 days, 85% were positive, indicating that recent user response is slightly higher than the overall cumulative rating.

The gaming media outlet PC Gamer also introduced ‘Gladio Mori’ as a unique gladiator sandbox game where you can create your own attack animations.

The official release supports full cross-play between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This allows players on different platforms to enjoy online matches together.

‘Gladio Mori’ laid the foundation for its official release by spending a highly polished early access period that belied its one-person development scale.

It is equipped with groundbreaking attempts not seen in other fighting games, including a combination of body damage mechanisms and a physics engine, and a ‘Move Editor’ with infinite freedom.

Attention is focused on how broad a user base this unique action game, which is expanding its territory from PC to console platforms on September 16, will be able to capture in the hardcore action market.
