To whom will the scarce bread be given? Soviet frontier village survival game ‘Selsovere’ revealed

    By Editorial Team2026년 08월 23일6 Mins Read
    • In 1976, he runs a shop in a remote village in the Soviet Far East and decides the survival of his family and the residents.
    • Overedge Games Unveils Steam Page for 12-Ending Narrative Immersive Simulation

Independent studio Overedge Games announced ‘Selsoviet’, a first-person narrative immersive simulation set in a remote village in the Soviet Far East in 1976, and unveiled the Steam store page.

‘Selsoviet’ tells the story of a village slowly declining after being abandoned by the system due to a shortage of resources and isolation. The player begins the story from the perspective of a woman who runs a small shop in this place.

The game is characterized by its deep worldview, built upon actual historical events. It leaves a lasting impression on players by constantly presenting moral dilemmas regarding “who to help and what to give up” amidst the extreme situation of limited resources.

To whom to share limited food… an individual moral choice

The player starts the game as Eliza (Elizaveta Gulyaeva), a mother of two who runs a small shop in the village of Herota in the Soviet Far East.

Liza must decide how to distribute limited food supplies to the residents of a village suffering from severe resource shortages. Her choice inevitably has consequences, and the problem facing the entire village becomes a matter of her own survival and protecting her family.

Liza’s two children are suffering from typhoid fever, but they cannot even receive proper treatment in the isolated village of Herota. Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where the nearest hospital is located, is also a distant place that is not easily accessible.

Ultimately, Liza faces a harsh choice regarding how far she must bend her moral convictions and compromise in the course of running the shop to save her family. The narratives of those leaving the village in search of hope and those who remained intersect in earnest, leaving a deep and lingering impression.

Live NPCs and 12 endings, even producing bread and moonshine yourself at the shop

‘Selsoviet’ aims to be a narrative game that goes beyond a simple shop management simulation, where the story changes depending on your choices.

The game features NPCs with their own backstories, and offers 12 different endings where the story changes depending on the player’s choices. In particular, the structure adds weight to the player’s decisions by ensuring that early decisions influence subsequent situations.

The shop is not merely a background element either. Players can directly interact with various elements inside the shop and produce necessary items themselves, ranging from bread to homemade moonshine called Samogon.

The tension persists even during the sales process. Not only must the buyer’s distribution coupons be verified and identification checked, but even counterfeit documents must be screened out. Allowing just a single incorrect coupon to pass can lead to serious consequences.

The details designed to capture the atmosphere of the era are also eye-catching. From sound effects that recreate actual Soviet radio broadcasts from the 1970s to the implementation of cash registers and calculators used at the time, the game enhances the sense of immersion in the period.

The playtime is expected to vary from about 4 hours to a maximum of 50 hours depending on the player’s choices.

A story based on a true event… The fall of a coal mining village established in 1947

Herota, the main setting of the game, is a fictional coal mining town established in the Khabarovsk Krai in 1947.

Overedge Games structured the history of Herota from its founding to its fall like a single chronicle and concretized the background of the worldview by releasing the village’s history in the form of an archive.

According to the setting, the mine was permanently closed in 1971 following a coal mine accident that resulted in numerous casualties, and the authorities attributed the responsibility for the accident to “worker negligence.” Subsequently, Herota was excluded from the next five-year plan and gradually faded from the state’s attention.

Set in 1976, only about 2,000 residents remain in Herota within the game. The town, which once grew around a mine, has now entered a period of decline, and the residents face the reality of having to endure day by day amidst scarce resources and an isolated environment.

The developer explains that this tragic story is based on actual historical events. Furthermore, they emphasized that the core themes running through the work are human relationships and warmth that persist even amidst the world’s indifference, harsh choices, and desperate, decaying circumstances.

Still in the early stages of announcement, a demo is scheduled to be released later.

Interest from international gaming media has continued following the release of the announcement trailer for ‘Selsoviets’. In particular, the game is being introduced as a title that emphasizes moral choices set against the unique backdrop of a remote mining village in the Soviet Far East, centering on the developer’s message: “Decide what kind of person survival makes you.”

A demo version is scheduled to be released later, and the exact release date has not yet been confirmed. Game information is currently available on PC Steam, and the game is expected to support English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Spanish (Latin America), Chinese (Traditional), Polish, and Portuguese (Brazil). Support for Korean has not been announced.

‘Selsovière’ is a work that takes aim at weighty, fundamental human themes of scarcity, survival, and moral choice rather than stimulating glamour.

The sophisticated worldview and period details that seem to be based on actual history, along with the 12 multi-ending structures where every decision comes back as a butterfly effect, foreshadow depth beyond just a game.

Attention is focused on what deep resonance the unique narrative of ‘Selsoviet,’ which deals with the human warmth blooming at the end of despair, will leave on users.
