KOCCA Call for Proposals for Support Project to Transition Game Production Environments to AI

    By Editorial Team2026년 05월 19일4 Mins Read
    • Support for usage fees of game production AI tools for the AI transition of the game production environment (AX)
    • KOCCA signs MOU with major game industry associations to promote open call

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Choi Hwi-young) and the Korea Content Agency (Acting President Yoo Hyun-seok, hereinafter KOCCA) signed a business agreement with the Korea Mobile Game Association (hereinafter Mobile Association), the Korea Game Developers Association (hereinafter Developers Association), the Korea Artificial Intelligence Game Association (hereinafter Artificial Intelligence Association), and the Korea Game Industry Association (hereinafter Game Association) on May 6 and are promoting the ‘AI Transition to Game Production Environment (AX) Support Project’.

This project was established to respond to the rapidly changing game production environment, such as intensifying global competition and the spread of generative AI, and to alleviate the burden of AI utilization for game companies. KOCCA and game industry associations plan to strengthen the global competitiveness of the K-game industry by supporting the transition of the game production environment to AI.

Support for AI tool usage fees for AI Transformation (AX) for game companies

Last March, KOCCA, together with the Mobile Association, the Developers Association, and the Artificial Intelligence Association, conducted a demand survey for AI transition support programs targeting the game industry. The survey results indicated that the burden of subscription fees (81.9% response rate) was cited as the biggest obstacle in the game industry’s transition to AI, and that there was also high demand for practical training programs. Accordingly, KOCCA and game industry associations are promoting various support programs to expand the use of AI by game companies.

Applications for this project will be accepted from May 18 to May 27 at the Mobile Association, the Developers Association, and the Artificial Intelligence Association. The scale of support varies by company size: approximately 200 companies with 1 to 2 employees (maximum 5 million won per company), approximately 150 companies with 3 to 10 employees (maximum 10 million won per company), approximately 100 companies with 11 to 20 employees (maximum 20 million won per company), and approximately 50 companies with 21 to 50 employees (maximum 50 million won per company).

Eligibility is limited to companies in game-related industries, excluding those selected for the current year’s KOCCA Game Production Support Program. Selection is conducted via a public lottery, and selected companies receiving AI production tools must submit a monthly report on their AI utilization in the game production field.

In addition, tools presented in the call for proposals may be utilized, and on-site demand will be reflected through monthly updates. 100% of the supply price will be supported for domestically developed AI tools, and 90% for overseas-developed AI tools.

In addition, we plan to disseminate best practices in the use of AI in the game production sector by providing copyright and legal guides related to AI utilization in game development and holding performance sharing events.

Expected to Strengthen Industry Competitiveness Through AI Transition in Game Production Environments

Hwang Seong-ik, Chairman of the Korea Mobile Game Association, stated, “To globalize K-games and strengthen development capabilities, we will provide comprehensive support in collaboration with various game industry associations to be of great help to everyone from individual developers to small and medium-sized development companies.” Meanwhile, Shin Yong-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Game Developers Association, stated, “I hope this project will alleviate the burden on game developers in utilizing AI tools and help improve production efficiency. We will actively support the development of globally competitive K-games by flexibly responding to the rapidly changing game production environment.”

Hong Young-ki, Vice President of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Game Association, stated, “Given the characteristics of the indie game sector, which has a high proportion of one- or two-person businesses and indie studios, we will actively provide support to ensure that it is practical and tangible for those in the field.” Meanwhile, Cho Young-ki, President of the Korea Game Industry Association, stated, “We hope that this support project will help improve the production environment and strengthen the development competitiveness of small and medium-sized game companies that feel burdened by the adoption of artificial intelligence, and the Game Industry Association will also actively cooperate.”

Yoo Hyun-seok, Acting President of KOCCA, stated, “This project serves as a catalyst to enhance the adaptability of AI in the game production environment and foster an environment for the successful adoption of AI,” adding, “We will continue to lead the utilization of AI in the game industry and actively support the strengthening of the global competitiveness of K-game content.”
