‘Who Are You!?’, a psychological horror game featuring real UFO researchers and psychologists, launches on Steam on March 27

    By Editorial Team2026년 03월 17일5 Mins Read

▶ A psychological adventure game combining alien abduction trauma and family narrative
▶ Fear is built not through typical jump scares, but through slow tension and rifts in perception.

“Who Are You!?”, a sci-fi psychological horror adventure developed and published by Argentina-based indie developer Haunting Humans Studio, will officially release Episode 1 on Steam (PC) on March 27.

This game is a sci-fi psychological horror adventure game that builds fear through psychological pressure, excluding the ‘sudden jump scares’ commonly used in general horror games. It features a narrative centered on alien abduction and trauma based on actual UFO research.

The development team emphasized that the entire process of art, sound, and development was “completely handcrafted,” using no AI at all.

A wife kidnapped 20 years ago, a missing daughter… Ray Rothwell’s psychological journey

Gamers You control UFO researcher Ray Roswell, who lost his wife to an alien abduction 20 years ago, as he uncovers the truth behind the incident. However, when his daughter also goes missing, Ray embarks on an inner journey to confront his old wounds while tracking down clues.

The game’s worldview is also connected to the prequel short, ‘The Amanda Roswell Project.’ This work covers the beginning of the 1965 alien abduction incident, and the story unfolds using a mysterious mark etched on a bridge as a clue amidst the sensation of reality crumbling.

Rural America in the 1960s… Fear seeping into the silence

The official Episode 1 launch trailer naturally draws viewers into the game’s atmosphere through sophisticated lighting, restrained colors, and deliberate pacing. The trailer’s visual language portrays an atmosphere blending mystery and introspection, while textured scenes—such as reflective surfaces, rain-strewn streets, and enclosed indoor spaces—convey tension and a sense of crisis.

Users who played the demo particularly praised the atmosphere of the farm within the game. Reactions followed stating that the setting, featuring cornfields and a dilapidated farmhouse, realistically captured the simple and desolate spatial atmosphere characteristic of rural America in the 1960s, and that the sense of unease gradually spreading within it created a unique horror atmosphere.

Elements related to real-life UFO incidents are hidden throughout the game’s props and backgrounds, and scenes reminiscent of Cerro Uritorco, a famous UFO sighting spot in Argentina, can also be found in various places.

Invisible terror… fear created by a rift in perception

The way the game conveys horror is distinctly different from existing horror games. Rather than monsters or chase sequences, the core of the fear lies in the psychological anxiety stemming from the protagonist’s inner self and the uncertainty surrounding reality itself. Players are placed in a state where they cannot be certain of what is real, and along with increasingly unstable sensations, they experience a psychological horror unlike anything found in other games.

The sound is designed around restrained tension rather than excessive staging. It is characterized by a method of gradually building psychological pressure by utilizing the gaps between minimal music and silence, increasing intensity only at key moments.

Argentinian indie studio that has garnered attention for its impressive awards

Haunting Humans Studio, under the motto “We make games to haunt humans,” focuses on creating immersive experiences ranging from 3D art to gamification as its core competency.

The studio boasts an impressive list of awards, including a nomination for Best Horror Game at the EVA Awards (2025), IndieDB Top 100 Indies of the Year (2025·2023), a nomination for Best Narrative at the EVA Awards (2024), the Impact Award in the Vertical Game Industry category at the Sadoski Awards in Argentina (2024), the first ADVA Professional Game Mentorship (2024), 1st place at the 2023 Theme Horror Game Jam, and the BeatBang Animation Festival Video Game Selection (2023).

Users say “Graphics and story are impressive,” while simultaneously requesting technical improvements.

User reactions on itch.io and the Steam community have been generally favorable. While praise for the graphics and story continues, some gamers have provided feedback requesting improvements to the quality of the voice dubbing. In response, the development team is actively addressing this, stating, “We will show improved results in the official release, including voiceover work.”

The Steam community also conveyed technical feedback to the development team, including a bug where settings were not saved, issues with the placement of alien NPCs in the forest, the resolution cap being locked at 1080p, and screen tearing occurring even when V-Sync was enabled. The development team plans to incorporate this feedback before the official release to improve the game’s quality.

Fear does not necessarily exist only when it is visible right before your eyes. ‘Who Are You!?’ leads gamers to create their own fear through invisible cracks and emotional turmoil. As the boundaries between reality, memory, and belief become blurred, we will find out on March 27 whether this work transcends simple horror and becomes a ‘terrifying story that will be remembered for a long time.’
