An emotional narrative game from a female indie development team in Berlin.
Berlin-based Selkies Interactive has announced that its debut title, Echoes of Mora, will be released on PC and Steam VR in March 2026. Founded in 2023, the all-female studio brings diverse perspectives and creative ideas to its work.
An underwater exploration adventure that transcends time
‘Echoes of Mora’ is a narrative-driven adventure game that follows Mora, a young girl, on her journey to find her missing brother near a cursed purple lake. Players explore a flooded, abandoned village, searching for hidden objects and solving puzzles to solve the mystery.
The game’s core mechanic is a time portal called “Echoes.” By collecting glowing purple spheres called “Fragments” and placing them into the portal-like Echoes, the Echoes will turn gold and open, allowing the player to enter Mora’s memories and relive key moments. This allows players to experience the town’s beauty before the disaster, listen in on the townspeople’s conversations, and communicate with Mora.

A flexible platform that supports both VR and PC
One of the game’s most notable features is its support for both VR and standard PC modes. Gamers can choose to play on PC with a keyboard, mouse, and controller, or opt for a breathtakingly immersive VR experience with natural arm-based swimming using motion tracking. Furthermore, players can freely switch between VR and PC modes during the game, allowing them to switch playstyles whenever their arms start to tire.

A large-scale update reflecting community feedback.
The development team has actively incorporated feedback received since experiencing the game at Gamescom 2025. In response to constructive feedback on the swimming mechanics in VR mode, Selkies Interactive revamped the entire swimming system. Instead of relying on gesture recognition, which requires precise arm movements, the game tracks every movement and translates it into movement using direction and velocity vectors.
The recent holiday update added support for six languages: German, French, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Ukrainian, as well as improved accessibility and a streamlined VR swimming mode.

Notable indie game projects
‘Echoes of Mora’ is being developed as part of the DE:HIVE game incubator program at HTW in Berlin, Germany, and has received regional funding from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. It has also been nominated for the ‘Best Prototype’ category at the 2025 German Computer Game Awards (Deutscher Computerspielpreis).
“We’ve been listening to the community and improving the demo based on player feedback over the past few months,” said Meike Strippel, co-founder and lead artist at Selkies Interactive. “The demo now offers an upgraded swimming experience with natural arm movements and a deeper emotional connection through an expanded narrative.”
A demo version is currently available on Steam, with the official release scheduled for March 2026. This title is a must-see for gamers who enjoy underwater exploration and a captivating emotional story.
