- Artistic Mastery: Developed by Envar Games, a studio founded by veterans who created splash art for League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Valorant.
- A “Cozy” Survival Twist: Removes tedious hunger and stamina bars in favor of high-flying magic and exploration.
- Star-Studded Cast: Features voice acting from industry legends Matthew Mercer and Victoria Atkin.
- Steam Next Fest: Playable demo available from February 23 to March 2, 2026.
The survival genre is getting a magical makeover. Envar Games, the Stockholm-based studio behind some of the most iconic visuals in modern gaming, has officially released the demo for its debut IP, Witchspire. With over 100,000 wishlists and a successful closed beta that drew 85,000 players, Witchspire is rapidly becoming the “must-watch” indie title of the year.
The Riot Games Legacy
The buzz surrounding Witchspire stems largely from the reputation of its creators. Envar Entertainment, the parent company, is a powerhouse in the concept art world. They are responsible for some of League of Legends’ most famous splash arts—including the “Battle Academia” and “Project” skins—as well as environment work for Summoner’s Rift.
“We’ve worked with giants like Riot, Blizzard, and Netflix,” said Atey Ghailan, CEO of Envar. “Now, we are taking our first step toward becoming an AA studio by building our own universe.”
Survival Reimagined: The Power of Magic
Witchspire follows apprentice witches and wizards trapped in a mystical land, fighting to find their way home. Unlike traditional survival games that focus on the “grind,” Witchspire puts magic at the center of every interaction:
- Magic Gathering: Forget the axe and pickaxe. You summon forests to harvest wood and use spells to extract minerals.
- Aerial Freedom: Movement is defined by “Spirit Jumps” and broomstick flight, allowing for vertical exploration that feels fluid and unrestricted.
- Accessible Adventure: By removing the stress of hunger and stamina management, the game invites players to focus on creativity and combat.

Key Gameplay Systems

| Co-op Focus | Designed for group play, where players can combine spells to overcome massive bosses. |
Critical Reception: Visuals vs. Polish
Early impressions from PCGamesN and The Escapist have been glowing regarding the game’s “Studio Ghibli meets Sailor Moon” aesthetic. While reviewers noted some bugs in the combat AI during earlier builds, they praised the game for its “irresistible charm” and the innovative building mechanics.
“Even if you aren’t a fan of survival games, Witchspire has a way of pulling you in through its sheer beauty and stress-free systems,” noted PCGamesN after a Gamescom preview.
Steam Next Fest Details
The current demo allows players to reach Level 7, explore the starting biomes, and encounter the mysterious creature known as “Peb.” While farming and automation systems are reserved for the full Early Access launch later in 2026, the demo offers a substantial look at the game’s core loop.
