Publisher Mindscape and developer Aesir Interactive have released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the soundtrack production process for their upcoming game , “The Legend of Khiimori.” The game is set to launch in Early Access on March 3rd via Steam and the Epic Games Store . The video showcases the process behind the music and offers a glimpse into the game’s world and atmosphere.
“The Legend of Khiimori” is an adventure game set in 13th-century Mongolia. Its defining characteristic goes beyond simply borrowing from the region’s setting, incorporating the era’s musical traditions and cultural sensibilities throughout the game. The development team stated that they meticulously researched the era’s unique instruments, rhythms, and traditional musical styles, incorporating them into the sound design.
In particular, the music organically changes depending on the environment the player explores. The melodies and moods change according to each biome, from vast steppe grasslands to scorching deserts and snow-capped mountains, adding to the immersive experience.
To achieve this immersive sound, the development team collaborated with traditional Mongolian band Khukh Mongol and morin khuur master Zolzaya Boldbaatar, adding performances that capture the spirit of the region. This fusion of traditional instrument textures and modern game sound design is a key element of this title.
The game will be released in Early Access on March 3rd via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The development team plans to actively incorporate user feedback during the Early Access period to expand the content and enhance the game’s quality. A full PC version is also slated for release on console platforms in the future.
